Letters To The Church

LETTERS TO THE CHURCH
is a fitting manual for the Revelation Christian. All the precepts are in the seven letters in Revelation 1:9 - 3:22 to help us keep the faith, stay in sound doctrine, and reach out to those who are perishing. I hope and pray that this book will help the reader to be an "overcomer".

In the year 2000, we learned that a mantra-style meditation coupled with a mystical spirituality had been introduced to the evangelical, Christian church and was infiltrating youth groups, churches, seminaries, and Bible studies at an alarming rate.

Thus, in the spring of 2002, we began Lighthouse Trails Publishing with the hope of exposing this dangerous and pervasive mystical paradigm-six months later we published our first release, A Time of Departing by Ray Yungen.

As we learned more about contemplative spirituality (also known as the spiritual formation movement), we came to realize it had entered the church through a number of avenues-Willow Creek, Purpose Driven, and the emerging church just to name a few of the more prominent ones.

Because the premise of this spirituality is both pantheistic (God is all things) and panentheistic (God is in all things), thus refuting the gospel message of the Cross, we are compelled to address this issue-Lighthouse Trails Publishing and our research ministry, Lighthouse Trails Research Project, are here as a service to the body of Christ.

Dear All,

Please read the series of articles by Mike O. and myself on the Transformations movement.  It shows just how deceitful the New Apostolic leadership are.  Allistair Begg does an excellent series on suffering in the life of the Christian, putting to rest all the ridiculous claims of Word of Faith teachers.  Gary Gilley shows the heresy of the Emergent Church (EC) teachers with regard to the issue of the Atonement.  Those organizations supporting the EC such as YWAM and World Vision are promoting many false teachings regarding the "gospel".  If you want more information on that issue get our book "Idolatry In Their Hearts".

We continue to be in need of your help financially. Please consider ordering one of our products or making a donation.  As always, you can see the DITC e-Newsletter archive here and sign up to receive this newsletter or unsubscribe there as well.  Give the gift of discernment this Christmas!

Dangers, Toils and Snares
by Allistair Begg, Truth For Life, 11/8/10Truth For Life

How are things going these days? Is everything running as planned, or does it feel like you're just barely hanging on? Maybe you're lonely, facing illness, stressed over problems at work, or maybe you're just overwhelmed with a never-ending stream of challenges. As you survey the landscape around you, all you can see are more troubles on the horizon. Thankfully, we don't have to face these twists and turns alone. In this series of messages, Alistair Begg considers some of the most common dangers, toils, and snares that we encounter in our daily lives, and he shows us how a knowledge of God's character and the Gospel will give us the tools we need to overcome both common and uncommon challenges with a Biblical attitude.  This is a series of messages on this subject in MP3 or CD format.

Atonement Wars
by Gary Gilley, 11/4/10Think On These Things

When Steve Chalk and Brian McLaren accused evangelicals who believed in the substitutionary death of Christ of embracing a form of Divine child abuse,[1] Christians everywhere did a double-take.  Having sung with gusto for years that great line penned by Charles Wesley, "Amazing love, how can it be that Thou my God shouldst die for me" Christians could not believe that they were being accused of promoting child abuse by men who claimed to be at least on the fringes of the evangelical community.   What McLaren and Chalk had done was bring to the surface for all to see the long-standing debate by theologians about the meaning of the cross.   Almost no one in Christian circles doubts the historicity of the crucifixion, but why Christ died has long been contested.  Of late, due to the rising popularity of everything from the Emergent Church to the Ancient-Future Faith movement to the New Perspective on Paul, the significance of Christ's cross-work, often called the atonement, has regained traction.  In particular what has often been called "penal substitution," that the Son, "suffer[ed] instead of us the death, punishment and curse due to fallen humanity as the penalty for sin" has come under intense attack.[2]  It is the purpose of this study to identify the various views held by Christians on the atonement, analyze briefly the three major theories, and then develop a biblical defense for penal substitution as the central meaning and purpose behind the cross.

The Hole in Our Gospel

World Vision has done much work in aiding the poor and needy throughout the world. Unfortunately, they have shown a progression of going toward the "new" emerging spirituality, a spirituality that negates the true Gospel message of Jesus Christ. Because World Vision has professed to represent Christianity, and because they have drawn countless Christian supporters based on that, it is important that their Christian supporters understand the non-biblical direction in which they are heading.
