The Responsibilities of a Good Shepherd
by Sandy Simpson
There was a good reason why the illustration of a shepherd with his sheep was used so often in biblical times ... because it was an illustration people could easily identify with in their cultural context. The illustrations we use are most effective when they are understood easily by the culture to which God has sent us to minister. Middle eastern cultures understood what shepherding was all about. It was about feeding the lambs and the sheep, bringing them to good pasture lands and water, grooming and clipping them, delivering new lambs, leading them and teaching them to stay together, going off after the wandering lost ones, and protecting the sheep in the field and in the fold. We are all under shepherds and Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd. We need to emulate what the Good Shepherd does for the sheep.

NEW EVANGELICALISM: The New World Order
by Paul Smith
Reviewed by Sarah Leslie
The story of Peter Drucker's pervasive influence is told in Paul Smith's new book NEW EVANGELICALISM: The New World Order (Calvary Publishing, 2011). The Foreword is written by Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel, Paul's brother. This book is an historical account of the deep compromises of the past several generations of evangelical leaders. These concessions have left the current church in a state of "crisis and confusion." Pastor Paul traces "the seminal seeds that corrupted not only the major denominational churches, but specifically the conservative believing folks in these churches" (Introduction). This is a book about the history of the postmodern movement within evangelicaldom, and especially the role that Fuller Theological Seminary and Peter Drucker played in shaping the leaders that would guide the Emerging (Emergent) Church Movement.

What Have We Become?

News With Views, April 27, 2011
The command from Jesus was so simple: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15) How complicated is that? The world is right outside our door; and yet, look at the "church" today and what those claiming to be His disciples and witnesses are actually conveying to that world just in the latest headlines alone:

· 'A Massive Shift Coming in What it Means to Be a Christian" Is it any wonder there is so much confusion about Who Jesus is, what He did and what He taught - and that so many frustrated Bible believers are wandering from church to church these days looking for someone to simply preach it and teach it as it is written?

Knowing the True Christ in an Age of Counterfeits
Crosstalk Radio, Date: April 21, 2011
Host: Ingrid Schlueter
Guest: Warren Smith
Warren Smith (B.A. University of Pennsylvania; M.S.W. Tulane University) is a free lance writer and community social worker who was formerly involved in the New Age movement. He has served as a program coordinator for people with special needs, directed several homeless programs, and has worked most recently as a Hospice social worker in New Orleans and on the California coast. He has written extensively on the subject of spiritual deception and has been widely interviewed on radio and television. He is author of The Light that was Dark, Deceived on Purpose, A Wonderful Deception and False Christ Coming: Does Anybody Care? Having been saved out of the New Age movement, Warren Smith knows that there are many "christs" in the world today. As we are about to observe Good Friday and the resurrection of Christ, Warren underscores the importance of knowing the true and risen Christ, not a counterfeit. The discussion begins with mention of Shirley McClain. She may not have been taken seriously years ago because of her New Age beliefs yet she was recently on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Why? It's because some New Age teachings are no longer considered "fringe" but are now mainstream. Smith proves the point when he references Purpose-Driven author Rick Warren who has brought in three New Age doctors into his church through his "Daniel Plan". From there the discussion moves on to Marianne Williamson and her deceptive book, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles, the deceptive use of Bible terminology by New Age proponents, the experience that pointed him to Christ, the ties that the Emergent movement has with the New Age, and more. Also mentioned was Chuck Klein's Understanding the Times conference on April 30th in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Pastor Larry Debruyn, Sarah Leslie and Warren Smith will be speaking on counterfeit spirituality.

Salvation Through Technology - Creating A Posthuman New Breed
by Dr. Martin Erdmann, 4/23/1
For a thousand years in Western culture, the advancement of the mechanical arts - technology - has been inspired by deep religious desires of transcendence and redemption. Although currently obscured by secular language and ideology, the contemporary resurgence of religion, even New Age spirituality, alongside and hand-in-hand with technology is thus not an aberration but simply the reassertion of a forgotten tradition.
