A TALE OF TWO KINGDOMS Kingdom Now or Kingdom Come? by Sandy Simpson
This DVD is a message based on this article. There are two kingdoms being taught in many churches today. Teaching about one of the kingdoms is on the decline while the other is being promoted all over the place. I am warning Christians that they need to check out who is using the word "kingdom", the books they have been reading and recommend on building "the kingdom", the people they have been hanging out with at conferences, and what they mean by "the kingdom".

Think on These Things Ministries is a vital outreach ministry of Southern View Chapel. Think on These Things, which began in 1994, was originally the name of a one-page paper created for a mission agency, who wanted to keep their missionaries informed of the theological landscape in America and around the world. Today, Think on These Things has grown into a monthly publication that deals with contemporary theological issues, and is sent to subscribers in nearly every state in the U.S. and to numerous countries around the world. In addition to the monthly articles, Think on These Things Ministries hosts Bible conferences and serves as the publishing arm of Southern View Chapel, featuring the writing ministry of Pastor Gary Gilley, who has authored several books including, Is That You Lord?: Hearing the Voice of the Lord, a Biblical Perspective, This Little Church Stayed Home, This Little Church Went to Market, and "I Just Wanted More Land"-Jabez.
Think on These Things is currently funded by Southern View Chapel and the generous gifts of its readers. While each issue of Think on These Things is available through our website, many receive a monthly subscription through the mail or email. Dear All,
The main emphasis of this newsletter is on "contemplative prayer" and "spiritual formation", both ideas being espoused by Emerging Church leaders. You have to know the background of these ideas and not just assume they are harmless to the believer. --- Please consider ordering one of our products or making a donation. Please follow the guidelines on the donation link if you wish to help support this ministry. As always, you can see the DITC e-Newsletter archive here and sign up to receive this newsletter or unsubscribe there as well. |
Contemplative Prayer
| by Gary Gilley, 4/17/12
Of all the spiritual disciplines the Spiritual Formation Movement promotes, none is more important than prayer and the intake of God's Word. On the surface we would expect little resistance to these two disciplines since they have been recognized as essential to spiritual growth by virtually all Christians from all traditions. Sadly, upon closer examination we discover that what is meant by most evangelical Christians when they reference prayer and Bible intake is not always what the leaders within spiritual formation mean.

God in Everything? The Premise of Contemplative Prayer
| by Ray Yungen, 4/18/12
The physical world, human beings, and everything that is are all forms of the Ultimate Reality, all expressions of God, all "one with the Father." He means not all Christians but all people. This is nothing less than Hindu samadhi with Christian spray paint. Those in this movement who are honest have no qualms about acknowledging this-as one adherent did so aptly when he confessed, "The meditation of advanced occultists is identical with the prayer of advanced mystics." (Ray Yungen, A Time of Departing, 2nd ed. 2006, pp. 28-32)

The Roots of Spiritual Formation | by Lighthouse Trails, 4/15/12
To understand spiritual formation, all one needs to do is understand the spirituality of Richard Foster. Lighthouse Trails has documented his beliefs through A Time of Departing and Faith Undone, as well as through numerous articles on the Lighthouse Trails Research site. In this particular article, let us turn to a small book Richard Foster wrote called Meditative Prayer. Foster says that the purpose of meditative prayer is to create a "spiritual space" or "inner sanctuary" through "specific meditation exercises" (p. 9). Foster references several mystics in the book who can point the way to these exercises: Madame Guyon, Teresa of Avila, Francis de Sales, Henri Nouwen, and Thomas Merton. Foster breaks the contemplative process down into three steps.

The Harbinger | by Jonathan Cahn Reviewed by Berit Kjos
That part is true. So what can be wrong with a book that alerts us to evil and calls America back to God? In spite of my appreciation for the awakening effects of The Harbinger, we have serious reasons for concern:
- Its main theme focuses on a single prophecy (ignoring all others) as the heart of an ancient mystery and the key to America's coming judgment.
- It redefines and misuses the Biblical word"vow".
- The "prophet" blends truth with dreams, mysticism and false conclusion
Let's look at each point through the filter of the Bible.
