Featured Discernment Ministry
In the year 2000, we learned that a mystical spirituality had been introduced to the evangelical and Protestant church and was infiltrating youth groups, churches, seminaries, and Bible studies at an alarming rate.
Thus, in the spring of 2002, we began Lighthouse Trails Publishing with the hope of exposing this dangerous and pervasive mystical paradigm-six months later we published our first release, A Time of Departing by Ray Yungen.
As we learned more about contemplative spirituality (also known as the spiritual formation movement), we came to realize it had entered the church through a number of avenues-Willow Creek, Purpose Driven, and the emerging church just to name a few of the more prominent ones.
Because the premise of this spirituality is both pantheistic (God is all things) and panentheistic (God is in all things), thus refuting the gospel message of the Cross, we are compelled to address this issue-Lighthouse Trails Publishing and our research ministry, Lighthouse Trails Research Project, are here as a service to the body of Christ.
Since publishing A Time of Departing, we have been able to publish several other books, including some biographies that we consider exceptionally compelling, challenging, and faith-building. For instance, one of them, Trapped in Hitler's Hell,, is the true story of a Jewish teen who became a Christian and lived through the Holocaust in Germany. She is still alive today, and her story is so powerful and inspirational that we believe every Christian family should read it. The lessons we can learn from that time in history are vital and should not be forgotten.
Each of the books and DVDs we publish and/or distribute has been prayerfully chosen ... and we believe the message in each one will help equip Christian families and loved ones with biblical truth and inspiration to stand in courage and strength as you defend the faith and walk with Jesus Christ. We join you in that effort, knowing that it is only by His grace we are able to do so.

Pan-Evangelism Driven "Off-Message"
by Orrel Steinkamp
Volume 17, No. 2, March/April 2012
... by diverting attention from the gospel to ineffective political attempts to legislate morality. We oldies lament how American culture has changed especially in the last 50 years. The Christian influence that shaped Western Culture worldwide through the 19th century has given way to practical atheism and moral relativism. In the name of equal rights, political correctness, tolerance, gross immorality, pornography, abortion, sexual immorality and divorce (in and out of the church) and homosexuality have become sanctioned in the wider society. So what is the body of Christ to do about it? Is it just a political problem that can solved politically? In the last decades evangelicals have promoted a political solution to what is seen as a political problem. But America's moral decline is not essentially a political problem but a spiritual problem and consequently its solution is the gospel, not partisan politics. Evangelicals have become known in the wider culture as primarily a political force. Howard Fine man a liberal/progressive political analyst, has stated the obvious in stark terms: "There is a new ruling class in the GOP, the "revival tent" driving out the "big tent." [This new God's own party] is a doctrinal schizophrenic coalition ... to create a better America... It unites Catholic traditionalists who revere the papal hierarchy, evangelical, fundamentalists, and charismatic protestants, a few ultraorthodox Jews and Mormons who ironically aren't regarded as Christians by most other members of the coalition." (The Rise of faith within the GOP has created America's First Religious Party, www. Huffington Post).

Conference Seeks to Nurture Youth in a New Kind of "Christianity"
by The Berean Call, 4/25/12
TBC: McLaren's purpose is to "reach" Christian youth with his ideas, which in practice deviates little from far left politicians, and is devoid of the hope of the Gospel. For example, the speakers at this apostate event include Rev. Jeremiah Wright and speaker's topics include: Ivy Beckwith, "Godspell, Footloose (the original) and a New Kind of Children and Youth Ministry," Susan Burt, "Opening the World of Faith by Nurturing the Imaginative, Questioning Spirit," Patricia Lyons, "Harry Potter, God and Youth: Using Fiction to Transform Young Readers into Young Theologians," Dave McNeely, "A New Kind of Sexuality: Finding a Framework," Melinda Melone, "Welcoming Rainbow Kids: Resources and Approaches for Working with Youth in the GLBTIQA (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Transexual, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, Ally) Community.

Prophets, Not Profits
by Al Lewis
Wall Street Journal, 4/23/12
God does not want you to be rich. Every so often, he raises up a prophet to teach wayward profiteers about the sacrifice he demands. Ephren W. Taylor II, who called himself "the Social Capitalist," may be one such prophet. This son of a preacherman sold investment schemes at megachurches from Bishop Eddie Long's New Birth Missionary Baptist Church near Atlanta to Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church in Houston. The Securities and Exchange Commission recently charged Mr. Taylor with running a Ponzi scheme. His victims are now congregating in a class-action lawsuit. (Read more about Mr. Taylor on my blog, tellittoal.com.) "There's more fraud in the name of God than anything else," says Ole Anthony, president of the Trinity Foundation, which has been investigating religious fraud since 1987.

Spiritual Abuse Questionnaire
by Chris Lawson
Spiritual Research Network, 4/16/12
The following list of questions is to help you, the reader, think through a number of things that perhaps you have never seriously considered on your own before. As you read the questions, circle either YES or NO. When you reach the end, go back through the list and prayerfully consider the questions that you have answered YES to. Answering YES to any of the following questions may be an indication of an unhealthy problem in your group or with your leaders. Answering YES to more than just a few questions is a definite cause for alarm. If this is the case, it is recommended that you take a much closer look into your group's or organization's history, purpose, and goals. Observe closely the methods, activities, and lives of the leaders. Are they using abusive and manipulative tactics on people? If you believe that you are being abused in any way, it is highly recommended that you seek immediate help from balanced individuals and relatives who are outside of the influence of your group and its leaders. Remember, you have the freedom to make your own choices and to be free from controlling and manipulative people. Controlling, abusive, and manipulating people will only mock, chastise and attempt to control you even more when their ploys, methods and artful ways of controlling others have been exposed. Lastly, if you are suffering physical harm in any way or are involved against your conscience in any activity, you have the freedom to call emergency personnel by dialing 911.
