Man's way or God's way? That is a very important question. When it comes to growing God's church, is there a right answer? Some believe there are ways to promote church growth by applying certain principles that are based on human insight and growth methods. What does God say? Every Christian wants to see the church grow. Jesus made it clear before He ascended to the Father that His followers are to be His witnesses. Believers are called to share the good news of the gospel until He returns. We want to see our churches filled to overflowing. But what happens when the Christian Church, in its zeal to reach the unconverted, begins to embrace ideas and methods that are far from biblical to attract the lost?
By suggesting that people should ask, "What is the Father doing?" Johnson has switched the focus from looking to Scripture to following subjective intuitions. That's a dangerous path to tread.
We are all undergoing, whether we believe and acknowledge it or not, a tremendously intense level of spiritual warfare such as never seen before in history. The Bible tells us that this intensive, high-level spiritual warfare would be one of the characteristics of the last days. The book of Revelation warns us that in the very last times, the Abyss, i.e. "the bottomless pit" will be opened and the earth will be inundated by a locust like Demon invasion, sent to torment all men. Paul warns us that in the last days demons will be teaching people doctrine and that those doctrines would even infiltrate the church, causing many to fall away.
Let me start out by stating that I am all in favor of a museum that shows the historicity of the Bible. If it weren't for some of the people involved this would be a valuable resource. But I don't support giving credibility to Rick Warren and his friends in support of the Museum of the Bible. Warren has become the de facto spokesman for this effort. It is great they are featuring texts and archeological information about the Bible. But I believe Warren is doing this to set himself up as an authority on the Bible when he is actually guilty, on many counts, of not only disobeying it but of twisting it out of all recognition. False teachers and those who hang with them are constantly on the lookout for projects that will legitimize them and make them look like they are biblical leaders in Christendom people should follow. But true biblical leaders are those who do not teach heresy and do not stand up for false prophesies. Though the Museum of the Bible could do a world of good for those lacking an understanding of the Bible and its place in history, it is also propping up some questionable "Christians" who are behind it and those compromisers who stand with them.
