SERIES: JANUS: The Return Of The "God" Of New Beginnings Part 4: JANUS: The Beginning And The End Of All Things By Ed Tarkowski The current Revival is breaking down walls and the Catholic Church is gathering up the spillage in order to bring about one "Church." If we were to consider any god or spirit to be active in this process, JANUS OF LITIUM would be the perfect candidate. As the Revival moves into the millennium, it looks back to "Babylon" falling [the denominations] and looks ahead to a united Church establishing the kingdom of God in power and glory. The Pope, too, looks back at what was, as "Babylon burns," and looks forward to bringing about a glorious Roman Church which rules over all. The idea of Janus being a prime candidate for most active spirit operating throughout the past two and a half decades seems obvious, especially since it was stated around 1994 that "Janus will come into play as we end this decade": "MEGA IMAGE TWO - Trends 2000 "Let's move on here, from Threshold, seeing the 2000 as [inaudible words] of trends, seeing the year 2000 as a mountain, and climbing up and looking backward and forward. There's going to be an irresistible urge of the move to the year 2000 to give a retrospect and a prospect, to look backward and to look forward. "You know, in Roman mythology, it was the god Janus who had a temple open in Rome with two doors open, one backward with a face of youth, with a face of wisdom and old age, looking with wisdom to the past, and one face of younger, a youth with idealism in the future. Janus will come into play as we end this decade. We have the first month of our year - it's called January - a looking back, a looking forward" (Jay Gary, THE POWER OF AD 2000, ADOPT-A-PEOPLE CONSULTATION II - Tape 10 [1994?], Cassette Tape Transcription; excerpt). It was the AD2000 movement that took a major step in bringing Rome and the denominations together for a united evangelization effort. Whatever the underlying thoughts of Jay Gary's statement, I find it most likely that the character of Janus, the "looking back" at the old millennium and "looking forward" to all things becoming "new," indicates that it is the spirit of Janus we are dealing with regarding Papal efforts. Everything is changing, and this is evident in the traits of Janus as the beginning and end of any kind of new efforts. How Does This Apply to Jubilee 2000 And The Holy Door? I have been saying that with the opening of the Holy Door, tremendous spiritual power will be unleashed as Catholicism and the other religions have a meeting of the heart and "Spirit" throughout the world (see Catholic agenda and the dates December 24-28, 1999). To Rome and the Revival, the "Sleeping Giant" is awakening (see Part 2). Three hundred years ago, Jane Lead prophesied all that would happen in the Revival before the beginning of the millennium. She also prophesied that a key would be given to a Catholic pope who would prove to be the man to raise up a single corporate entity from the denominational churches hidden in "Babylon." Three hundred years before Lead, Pope Clement acted on a vision of a coming "important personage" who would be given two keys to open the Holy Door and set the world on fire and bring it enlightenment. That man appears to be the current Pontiff. JANUS: The God Of Unification (Though I am not at all familiar with spiritual alchemy and am just looking into its ways, I have decided to include this in this section. Regardless, there is no question that the current Pope is one who has a global unification program in full swing.) "Alchemically He [Janus] is the universal solvent for, as Marcus Messala explained, Janus "fashions all things and guides them," and He is the agent of unification that brings together the naturally heavy elements (water and earth), which are cold, with their opposites, the naturally light elements (air and fire), which are hot. In this way the Quintessence is synthesized" (John Opsopaus, De Saturno & Jano Tractatus(c) 1995, http://www.cs.utk.edu/~mclennan/BA/PT/BA/JO-DSJT.html#janus). Janus is the god who brings all things together, even opposites, and unifies them. In the above quote, water is brought together with fire and earth is brought together with air. This is based on the "science" of alchemy, and this "science" has tried to change base elements into gold for centuries and has not succeeded. The result is something of a much higher degree of worth when these uncombinable elemnts are combined. Out of this "science" has evolved Spiritual Alchemy, the changing of man from his base nature to a godhood state manifesting "the glory of 'God'" (Gold), even spiritual entities that seem opposite of each other, i.e., Catholicism and Protestantism to bring about the perfect entity. It is interesting that Jane Lead, in her Third Letter to The Philadelphian Society, used this very example: ". . . . be it known to you, that your Commission is to go forth first to Baptize with the Water of Life, not according to the deadness of the Letter, but by the Internal conveyance of the Lifequickening Power, that may give Sin its deaths wound; and this in Order to a higher degree of Baptism, which is from the Glassy Sea (wherein is the Holy Fire mingled, and cooperating with the Water) which is the Ministry of the Holy Ghost, which requires a true Examination of those that are called hereunto, whereby it may be known that they have the Right Mission" (Lead). Lead was a follower of Jack Boehme, who also delved into spiritual alchemy. We know the ultimate goal of the Manifest Sons doctrine is godhood, "Christ" re-incarnated in his body. In the Revival we also have the four elements listed above: earth, air, fire and water. Though alchemy as an ancient science has been unable to bring these natural elements together to "create" the perfect substance - Gold - spiritual alchemy has done so through the spirits of four "elements": 1. Earth = the human person, that which is to be brought to the highest level 2. Water = "Spirit" symbol; uses the example of Jesus' invitation at the feast of Tabernacles 3. Fire = "Spirit" symbol; the "Baptism" of the "Holy Spirit," "The Anointing" 4. Air = "Spirit" symbol; "Like a mighty wind" There are Biblical truths concerning the true Holy Spirit in these symbols, but what we are talking about here is the result of the action of these four spiritual "elements" (spirits) producing the ultimate creature: the god-man, the corporate body of Manifest Sons in glory. We have also shown that this doctrine is present in Catholic doctrine, and it has been stated that it is the Holy Spirit working through the ecumenical movement to bring all churches into one global entity: ""Ut Unum Sint! The call for Christian unity made by the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council with such impassioned commitment is finding an ever greater echo in the hearts of believers, especially as the Year 2000 approaches, a year which Christians will celebrate as a sacred Jubilee, the commemoration of the Incarnation of the Son of God, who became man in order to save humanity. . . ." "There is no doubt that the Holy Spirit is active in this endeavor and that he is leading the Church to the full realization of the Father's plan, in conformity with the will of Christ. This will was expressed with heartfelt urgency in the prayer which, according to the Fourth Gospel, he uttered at the moment when he entered upon the saving mystery of his Passover. Just as he did then, today too Christ calls everyone to renew their commitment to work for full and visible communion. . . ." (Pope John Paul II, "That They All May Be One" (Ut Unum Sint!) Promulgated On May 25, 1995). The idea behind this is that once the apostate church is being "transmuted" to the perfect "element" through compromise with Rome, the unification of both like-entities will easily come together. This is the work of Janus of old as will become clear as go on in this series. JANUS - The "God" Of "New" Beginnings The very foundation of the Revival and the Catholic agenda is made up of "new" things, "new" revelations, "new" beginnings, a fulfilling "old" symbols and the introduction of "new" ones. This fits Janus perfectly. He is described as the: "Ancient Roman God of BEGINNINGS AND ACTIVITIES RELATED TO BEGINNINGS. January is named for him as it is the beginning of the year. Janus is listed first in prayers. His name is invoked when sowing grain as this is the beginning of the crops. His blessing is asked at the beginning of the day, month, and year. . . . In later depictions two faces looking in opposite directions. His main temple at the Forum in Rome has two doors, one facing the raising sun, the other the setting sun. Inside the statue of Janus has one face looking out each door" (J.M.Hunt, Greek Mythology http://www.frizzell.org/Greek/janus.html; caps mine). "A purely Roman god, Janus was seen as the origin [beginning] of all things, the introducer of the system of the years, the changing of the seasons, the ups and downs of fortune, and the civilisation of the human race by means of agriculture, industry, art and religion. . . ." (Lestat, "Of Gods And Men: The A-Z Of Mythology And Legend," http://www.clubi.ie/lestat/greekj.html). In one sense, Janus is a counterfeit Christ usurping the place of the true Jesus Christ in Revelation, who is the beginning and the end, the first and the last: "JANUS . . . was popularly represented seated, with two heads, one that of a youth (to signify the concept of beginning), the other that of an aged man (indicating the end). In his left hand he held a key, to show that he opened all things in the beginning, and shuts them at the end, and in his right hand he carried the sceptre with which he controlled all undertakings and their progress" (Lestat, "Of Gods And Men: The A-Z Of Mythology And Legend," http://www.clubi.ie/lestat/greekj.html; parentheses in original). Important to note here is that not only is Janus the beginning and end of all things, but he is also the one who controlled whatever undertakings he initiated until they are brought to completion: "Janus is the Roman god of . . . beginnings and endings, and hence represented with a double-faced head, each looking in opposite directions. He was worshipped at the beginning of the harvest time, planting, marriage, birth, and other types of beginnings, especially the beginnings of important events in a person's life. Janus also represents the transition between primitive life and civilization, between the countryside and the city, peace and war, and the growing-up of young people" (http://www.pantheon.org/mythica/articles/j/janus.html). This is extremely relevant to the efforts of the current pope as all the facets of Jubilee 2000 were planned by him and directed by him. This is also appropriate in regards to the Revival, union with Rome and the coming millennium. The Revival, a "new" beginning, is to culminate in the transformed civilization of a global Golden Age. Having begun in the 60s through the efforts of David DuPlessis as a bridge to Catholicism, those early days of the Charismatic Renewal will end with a global harvest, such as the "planting . . . [and] beginning of the harvest time" for which Janus was worshipped. Following this is "the transition" into a counterfeit kingdom of God through union with Rome. Global church planting, marriage of The Bride, and the birthing of the Corporate body of the Manifest Sons fit perfectly with the works of Janus. In fact, the reference to "other types of beginnings, especially the beginnings of important events" can apply to any number of "new" things in the Revival and the papal agenda. Janus' connection with the "new" beginning of the Revival and Rome at the end of this millennium is also appropriate: "Janus, the gatekeeper of heaven in Roman mythology, is also the god of beginnings and endings. Janus manifests initiation and closure within time. His two faces, looking in opposite directions, provide him with simultaneous knowledge of the past and the future" (The Timepiece of Humanity - Duality I 2a.0 Stephen Lauf © 1995, http://www.quondam.com/tph/02a/2a_0.htm#1). Here are a few examples of "new" beginnings by major movements within Christianity, New Age and Catholicism. In my "Laughing Phenomena" booklet, I quoted John Wimber, head of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship, saying that God told him to go to the nations in what would be "a season of NEW BEGINNINGS." He believed God said, "I'm going to start it all over again. I'm going to pour out my Spirit in your midst like I did in the beginning" (John Wimber, "Season of New Beginnings," File NEWBEG.TXT, 23879 Bytes, Compuserve, CIN-4, Lib 2. Originally published in the May/June 1994 edition of Vineyard Reflections newsletter published by Association of Vineyard Churches. John Wimber, Publisher; Bill Henderson, editor). In New Age leader Barbara Marx Hubbard's book, "The Revelation," her "Christ" also promised a season of New Beginnings: "Those of you who hear these words are to carry on the commandment given to John two thousand years ago. You are not only to prophesy the end, the tribulations, and the New Jerusalem, you are to act it out. You are to discover the blueprint and become co-creators with God. You are to see the first fruits of the NEW BEGINNING" (Barbara Marx Hubbard, "The Book of Co-Creation: The Revelation - Our Crisis Is A Birth," "The Christ" comments on Rev. 10:8-11 (Novato, CA: Nataraj Publishing, 1993), p. 158). "Now is the time. More of the Book of the Gods shall be revealed to you, dearly beloved, for the end is coming and the NEW BEGINNING is dawning in your lifetime"(Ibid., "The Christ" comments on Rev. 10:1-4, p. 150). During Vatican II, Pope John XXIII prayed for a New Pentecost. Now another pope, John Paul II, has asked the Blessed Virgin to send a "new" Pentecost as he prepares for the Great Jubilee of 2000. The Pope asked Mary to: "'visit'...as a 'pilgrim of faith,' each and every one of the dioceses, parishes, ecclesial communities and families of America...May she favor the unity of the Church by bringing together, as in a new Pentecost, those who believe in Jesus Christ and those who need to be renewed by the Spirit" (VIS, February 11, 1996). Pope John Paul II: "Since the publication of the very first document of my pontificate I have spoken explicitly of the Great Jubilee, suggesting that the time leading up to it be lived as 'a new Advent.' . . . The purpose is to emphasize what the Spirit is suggesting to the different communities, from the smallest ones, such as the family, to the largest ones, such as nations and international organizations, taking into account cultures, societies and sound traditions. Despite appearances, humanity continues to await the revelation of the children of God and lives by this hope, like a mother in labor, to use the image employed so powerfully by St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans (cf. 8:19-22)" ("The Coming of the Third Millennium: Preparation for the Jubilee of the Year 2000," Article 23, Trinity Communications 1994, provided courtesy of The Catholic Resource Network.). Do you hear the voice of Janus in all of these New Beginnings and their furtherance? I could find quote after quote of the "new" beginnings and "new" things even now being prophesied, but the point is overwhelmingly evident: the Roman god Janus is the god of ushering out the old and ushering in the new beginnings and everything that transpires in between. I believe he is in the world and active again. Continued in Part 5.
