The Church Can Forgive Sins

(982) There is no offense, however serious, that the Church cannot forgive. “There is no one, however wicked and guilty, who may not confidently hope for forgiveness, provided his repentance is honest. Christ who died for all men desires that in his Church the gates of forgiveness should always be open to anyone who turns away from sin. (Page 278)

It was not the Church that died for me, it was not my denomination, it was not by my good works. It was Christ who died for me, and redeemed me. How can sinful men forgive sinners? There is only one who is able to forgive sins, the Lord Jesus Christ. This sounds to me like a perverting of the Gospel.

Acts 5:30-31 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

Acts 13:37-39 But he (Jesus), whom God raised again, saw no corruption. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man (Jesus) is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him (Jesus) ALL that believe are justified from ALL things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

1 Peter 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
