Great Discernment Tools!
From Church To Emerging Church DVD
Series
by Sandy Simpson
The issue of the Emerging Church and it's introduction
into many churches and mission organizations has reached a critical point.
Many do not undersand what is being leavened into churches by the EC leadership.
Many would be shocked to know their belief systems involve Universalism,
New Age, defense of postmodernism, Interfaithism, and many other false
doctrines. In order to reach out to this generation the EC leadership
is proposing a whole new "map" to deal with what they perceive is a lack
of understanding on the part of the churches on how to communicate.
EC proponants believe the "scripture" for today is evolving and must change
in order to reach postmoderns.

IDOLATRY
IN THEIR HEARTS
Does having eternity in your heart mean that you know
God and are His child? Could Gentile cultures understand the Gospel from
the stars? Did God create man’s cultures? Has God always been in the process
of redeeming cultures from the time of Babel by placing in them a true
revelation of Himself? Is there the worship of YHWH in all cultures and
religions through the names of “supreme beings”? Have all cultures
always had a way to make things right between them and God? These questions
and many more are answered in this book that addresses the false teachings
of The New Apostolic Reformation regarding missiological methods as being
carried out by many agencies including the World Christian Gathering on
Indigenous People, YWAM, and many Bible societies.

LESSONS
IN FORGIVENESS
Through the years I have been
presented with many opportunities to forgive. Sometimes the situation was
so severe that it took me some time to forgive and start the process of
healing for myself, and eventually for others. I learned that a Christian
needs to forgive other people even if they have not repented of their sins.
That can be really hard if we let it be hard. But if we give our burdens
over to the Lord, He will carry them and that frees us up to treat other
people with love, compassion, and be in the right frame of mind and heart
to set them up for reconciliation with Jesus Christ. That does not mean
we tolerate their sin. We simply forgive them for what they have done to
us, whether perceived or real, and move on to looking for ways to redeem
them. We can then present to them the “truth in love” even when we have
to rebuke them.

FINISH THE RACE!
was written to help believers
to realize the absolute necessity of growing to maturity in Christ. Many
churches are urging Christians to push aside discernment in favor of experience.
It is our hope that this book will inspire many believers to fight the
good fight, finish the race, and keep the faith (2 Tim. 4:7).

General
apologetics articles on the Third Wave "river".
(1)
The
Deification Of Man by Norman Geisler and William Watkins, 1992
The different cults and aberrational leaders that deify man are compared
to the orthodox Christian view of monotheism, trinitarianism, incarnationalism
and evangelicalism. Some of these are the men that were invited by John
Arnott to the Toronto Vineyard Fellowship Church where, subsequently, the
Toronto "Blessing" emerged.
(2) Anatomy
Of Deception by Dr. Eddy Cheong, 1996
A chart comparing the original lies of Satan in the Garden of Eden
and the modus operandi of the Laughter movement and derivatives.
(3) Can
You Identify A Cult? by Norman Olson, 1989
"We also need to be familiar with, and to familiarize others with,
the basic marks of a cult. What are some of the ways we can identify false
religions?" ... Some of the ways to identify a cult are to "watch
for their attitude toward the Word of God ... see what they believe concerning
salvation ... determine what they believe about assurance of salvation
... watch to see if they elevate a certain person or that person's words
to a level in the direction of the God-like ... watch for doctrinal vagueness
or inconsistency ... be aware of a tendency to claim new discoveries, especially
from the Scriptures."
(4) Is
It Scriptural? by A College Professor, 1997
An unnamed college professor, who seems to be coming from a Pentacostal/Charismatic
perspective, lays down sixteen questions to ask when questioning whether
a movement or revival is really from God. Although we disagree with his
position that there is some justification from Scripture for "slain in
the spirit", we do agree with him that "being slain in the Spirit is
certainly not normative for a Christian, and it is impossible to prove
from Scripture that it is even normal. Thus it cannot be seen as a mark
of spirituality." The rest of the points of this article are very helpful.
(5) Where
Is the Charismatic Movement Headed? by M.H. Reynolds, Jr, 1996
"Believers would be shocked if they only knew the whole story of
conspiracy, intrigue, hypocrisy, selfishness, greed and deception on the
part of charismatic and new-evangelical leaders which, in some cases, has
been going on for years. Yet, all the while, these leaders were putting
on a false front of spirituality to deceive the increasing millions of
people who hung upon their every word as they appeared on television, spoke
on radio broadcasts and at huge rallies, and indoctrinated their deluded
followers by numerous seminars, videos, tapes and books." From a conservative
fundamentalist perspective, but it does raise some very good questions.
(6) Where
Are They Now?: A Televangelist Update by Perucci Ferraiuolo and
Paul Carden, 1994
"Slick. Hypocritical. Greedy. Power-hungry. Flamboyant. Sleazy.
Materialistic. To millions of skeptical viewers, such words define the
video preachers known collectively as televangelists. And while many responsible,
credible evangelical ministers use the airwaves with the best of motives,
in the minds of scandal-weary, cynical audiences they're the ringmasters
of electronic religion, predators -- possibly perverts -- in three-piece
suits." An old update but it shows where people end up who are not
truly following God.
(7) The
Unholy Alliance by Dan S., 1997
"Like a lost treasure, genuine biblical Christianity has been buried
beneath the sands of time. Down through the centuries, much of Christendom
has become a synthesis of humanism and Biblical semantics--an unholy alliance,
symbolized above by Leonardo da Vinci's Renaissance man, (who signifies
man as the 'measure of all things') holding the Christian Pax emblem. Nearly
all twentieth century Christianity has erroneously embraced the foundational
tenet of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment--the sovereignty of man.
Let's explore the consequences."
(8) Weighed
And Found Wanting by Pastor Bill Randles, 1995
"The current "renewal" or "revival" that is being promoted by people
like Rodney Howard Browne, the Toronto Airport Vineyard, and others, actually
has the potential of taking people's eyes off of the God of the Bible and
turning them to sensual manifestations and mystical experiences. Unless
some leadership is offered and discernment is applied, I predict that many
of God's people will be hurt, disillusioned and even made shipwreck of
their faith, as a result of this "Mystical Revival."
From a Pentacostal
perspective. This is an excellent online book.
(9) Unbiblical
Doctrines, Teachings and Phenomena of the Third Wave Counterfeit Revival
Movement compiled by Sandy Simpson, 1997
A document compiled from a few sources to give Christians a resource
to cut through the issues involved in the "counterfeit" revival. This paper
includes a short list of unbiblical doctrines, teachings and phenomena
observed and documented in the Toronto "Blessing"/Pensocola "Outpouring"
movement. Please refer to the document called "Influence Links Of The Third
Wave Movement" for a more comprehensive list of the heretical doctrines
of the Third Wave. This paper also features guiding principles on how to
determine unbiblical doctrines, whether or not we are to test and judge
as Christians, and practical guidelines on how to counsel people who have
had emotional, physical and spiritual damage from this movement or have
been demonized as a result of being "slain in the spirit" or at the "laying
on of hands".
(10) A
Coming New Pentecost an exerpt from "America - The Sorcerer's New
Apprentice, The Rise Of New Age Shamanism, p. 66-67 by Dave Hunt and T.A.
McMahon, 1988.
Check out this quote from New Age author Brad Steiger.
(11) Gambling
On Gamaliel by Bob Hunter, 1997
A short article on the "Gamaliel Defence" that many Third Wavers use
to try to avoid rebuke. "One should be able to see the absurdity of
using the Gamaliel line of defense. Maybe one day the Brownsville/Pensacola
supporters will realize that there are people who feel so strongly that
this is not a move of God that they sense they must speak out against it
or disobey God if they don't."
(12) "Jesus
Who?" by T.A. McMahon, 1997
"Nothing can be better on this earth than the joy of fellowship
with Jesus and with those who know and are known by Him. On the other hand,
nothing could he more tragic than the offering of one's affections to another
Jesus, the invention of men and demons. Our Lord prophesied that many would
fall prey to that great delusion just prior to His return (Matthew 24:23-26).
There will be many who, because of the alleged signs and wonders they perform
in His name, will convince themselves that they know Jesus and are serving
Him. To them He will speak these sobering words: "… I never knew you: depart
from me, ye that work iniquity" (Matthew 7:23). Rather than being divisive,
asking the question "Jesus who?" may be the most loving service one can
perform these days. The answer has eternal consequences."
(13) Believe
the Right Thing about the Right Person by A. W. Tozer, Renewed
Day by Day, 1950
In 1950 A. W. Tozer penned this devotional that is as definative a
statment on the Word-Faith and Third Wave movements as there ever was.
"Faith
is good only when it engages truth; when it is made to rest upon falsehood
it can and often does lead to eternal tragedy."
(14) Another
Gospel: Which is not Another by A.T. Pierson, 1900
"If there ever was a warning, framed by the Holy Spirit, in apostolic
days, for the very times in which we are living,
it is surely this, which is found in the forefront of this letter
to the Galatians."
(15) The
True Workings Of God Versus The Counterfeits Of Satan by Jessie
Penn-Lewis with Evan Roberts, from "War On The Saints, unabridged 1991
version
This is a chart from the end of this amazing book Though
written a long time ago, it details the fact that the enemy has been counterfeiting
the Christian experience for a long time with exactly the same things that
are going on today in the Third Wave. You will be amazed at the depth
and insight in this chart. I urge you to study it and apply it to
your life and ministry, so you may walk closer to God and helps others
do so.
(16) PREPARED
FOR THE SLAUGHTER: The Disarming of the Church by John Green, 1998
"As history has shown, it is a common tactic for the oppressing
force to gain control of a nation by seizing the means by which individuals
might defend themselves. Once the citizenry are disarmed, it is a relatively
easy matter to exert complete tyrannical control. It seems to me that the
same principal holds true in the spiritual realm. The New Testament is
replete with warnings of false teachers and teachings, of lying signs and
wonders, and of corrupt men who would seek to draw followers after themselves.
God has not left His people defenseless. He has indwelt us with His Spirit
of Truth, provided us with the example of Christ, His teachings, the teachings
of the apostles, and all the other writings found in the Bible. There is
a gift of the discerning of spirits given to some, but more importantly,
there the ability to test all things and to be discerning, which is the
responsibility of all believers."
(17) A
Second Pentecost? by Dr. Orrel Steinkamp, 1999
"C. Peter Wagner is attempting to will into existence what he calls
a "New Apostolic Reformation." He tells us in a book he has edited called
"The New Apostolic Churches" of the struggle he had with naming his new
reformation."
(18) Assessing
Current Teachings, Issues, And Events With Scripture by Dr. Orrel
Steinkamp, 1999
"What 30 years ago was discerned as being demonic has now been attributed
to the Holy Spirit of God! "
(19) They
Have Done Away With The Cross! by David Wilkerson, 1996 "There
is a great host of preachers who have literally cast aside the message
of the cross of Jesus Christ! Be warned: It doesn't matter what anyone
tells you about a great "revival" or moving of the Spirit taking place;
it doesn't matter how many multitudes are in-volved, or how loud their
praises are; it doesn't matter how "successful" a particular ministry may
appear to be. If the cross of Jesus Christ is not the door through which
people come, you can rest assured — it is not a work of God! "
(20) Is
There A Judiazer In The House? by Rev. Jerry Moser, 1999
"So, is there a Judiazer in the house? Today, the Judiazer heresy
of sacramentalism is alive and well; its well-meaning adherents are as
"evangelistic" as ever, bringing false confidence to millions. What can
we do? It seems like such an insurmountable problem! God's Word has the
only answer..."
(21) The
Way Of Cain - New Teachings in the Christian Church - Where Are They Leading
Us? by Lisa Havener, 1999
"Leaders of the movement teach that doctrine and theology are critical
and divisive, and unimportant anyway, so many have been lulled into putting
them aside. But are doctrine and theology really unimportant? Without them,
what sets Jesus apart from Buddha? What sets the biblical way of salvation
apart from any other religious system? Doctrine and theology refer to the
bedrock of truth every hope of our faith is built on. Our spiritual welfare
and the eternal destiny of souls depend on them. The fact is, this movement
does hold a theology and doctrines of its own and it would be wise to take
stock of them. If they are biblical, they will not be harmed by scrutiny.
The great majority following are doing so with a false impression of what
they are following."
(22) Confused
Charismatic Theology & The "Dake's Bible" by Rev. Joseph R.
Chambers, D.D., 1999
Finis Dake wrote an annotated bible commentary in the 1930's that may
have been one of the roots of the current Third Wave deception, born out
of Pentecostal and Assemblies of God churches and RHEMA. "(Dake) surely
has convinced a host of modern day Pentecostals and Charismatics.
No one would suggest that he is singularly responsible for the theological
mess that floods these churches, but neither should he be excused for his
part."
(23) The
Five Basic Doctrines compiled and written by Sandy Simpson, 1999
A thorough examination of the five basic doctrines of the Church and
how they compare to the teachings of other religions, cults and the Third
Wave false teachers. This is a paper you will want on file as a reference.
It also forms the basis for the Deception In The Church web site
apologetics.
(24) What
Should I Say? by Sandy Simpson, 1999
Learn how to answer people who invite you to revival meetings where
there are different teachings. Learn to discern! This booklet
was written for use by Pacific island churches to provide a quick little
resource in answering common statements made by Third Wave adherants.
Though there are a few references to the islands, it may also be a useful
resource for other churches and individuals. It is set up as a 4.25x5.5
sixteen page booklet printed front and back laid out on 8.5x11 paper
and folded. It can be easily reproduced from this version on the web.
It is free to distribute as long as the content is not altered in any way.
(25) Strange
Fire - The Rise Of Gnosticism In The Church by Travers and Jewel
van der Merwe, 1995
"Gnosticism has a chameleon-like ability to appear like the genuine
article, true Christianity, and thus has managed to transform itself to
fit the times in countless new wrappings over the centuries. It particularly
adapts itself to that place where the ideas of the east and west meet.
Whenever eastern mysticism and western rationalism collide, one can find
there the seedbed for a pseudo-Gospel that mimics the real thing."
(26) The
Latter Rain Movement: Its Continuing Influence by R. K. McGregor
Wright, Th.M., Ph.D., 1998
"...The mainline Pentecostal churches (such as the Assemblies of
God) had completely rejected the Latter Rain Movement as dangerous and
heretical, calling it "wild-fire." This was their own term for out-of-control
manifestations, and captures the flavor of the movement rather well.
The Latter Rain teachers, healers and evangelists were forced out of their
many former associations into what they felt was a "wilderness church"
experience, where they regrouped, and strengthened their own ministries.
Then in the late sixties and seventies they began the self-conscious re-infiltration
of other denominations under the "charismatic" label." Read Part
1 then Part 2.
(27) Parallels
Between Charismatic and New Age Movements by Gary F. Zeolla, 1998
"Even if these churches and groups had published statements of faith,
few of those entering would probably read them anyway. People entering
these movements are generally concerned with having an experience, not
finding the truth. As New Ager Marylin Ferguson says, "We begin to trust
intuition, whole brain knowing ... As we become attuned to the inner signals,
they seem stronger" (Ferguson, p. 107)." Read Part
1 then Part 2.
(28) Exposing The New Style Of Worship
- The Great Hymn Controversy by Alan Morrison, 1999
"A devastating ecclesiastical crisis has been unfolding during the
last three decades in the realm of worship. One can hardly fail to notice
that there has been something of a ‘revolution’ in church worship during
this time. Central to this upheaval has been a bumper-sized bandwagon of
new songs — and one is either travelling on this bandwagon or not. To be
off it is to be left out in the cold. Moreover, to resist this bandwagon
will inevitably bring accusations of "not keeping up with the times", of
"resisting the move of the Spirit" of "hampering the process of inevitable
revival", etc. In this article, we examine the issues involved, trace the
history of hymnody, expose the movements which have led to this ‘revolution’
in worship, and reveal the agenda which lies behind it." (Site
down,
was at: http://www.diakrisis.org/Hymns.htm)
(29) Backward, Christian Soldiers
- The Spiritual & Historical Regression of Dominion Theology
by Alan Morrison, 1999
"‘Dominion Theology’ (or Christian Reconstructionism) has as its
goal the peaceful conversion of governments to a ‘theocracy’, which bases
its civil law on the Mosaic Law of the Old Testament. However, it is our
belief that this is not only an error, but that it is schismatic and heretical
too. For Dominion Theology leads people to exalt the Mosaic Law and to
undermine the New Covenant gospel of the grace of Jesus Christ, while working
to bring about a fictitious "millennium", based on a Christianised world,
which misleads believers concerning the status and experience of the church
during the present evil age. In this study, we aim to show that Dominion
Theology inevitably makes believers less like Christ, that it exalts the
power of the civil state above its God-given status, and paints a false
picture of both church history and the time of the end. " (Site down, was
at http://www.diakrisis.org/Dominion_Theology.htm)
(30) A
Testimony About Leaving The Third Wave by Mandy, 1987
"Written in 1987, just a couple of months after I left the Pentecostal/Charismatic
movement." Details some false doctrines and her personal observations
of heretical practices.
(31) The
Two Mysteries by Rev. Bill Randles, 1998
"The very essence of biblical spirituality is this, God had to come
down to us, in the flesh, God became a man, to save us from sin. The very
antithesis of it, is this Mystery of Iniquity, this principle of man ascending
up unto God's class. The polarization of Christians along these lines is
upon us, and the choice is becoming increasingly stark! In closing, Jesus
poses a question which I believe is directed to the last generation of
believers, that on the one hand, to some incurs serious heart searching,
but on the other hand, to the "new breed," the question is almost irrelevant
in the light of the great and mighty "revival" of signs, wonders and power
sweeping the earth. The question is: 'Will the Son of Man find faith when
He comes to the earth?'".
(32) The
Church Outside The Camp by Cross + Word, 1999
"This article is written to address the thoughts, needs and concerns
of people who have already made the decision to worship "outside the camp"
for good and proper reasons. What this article is NOT ... This is not written
to encourage believers to leave their fellowships if they have good, sound
churches where there is no danger of deception. Nor is it encouragement
to those who simply have a grievance or are unwilling to submit themselves
to discipline, to come out of their churches for those reasons. This is
not written from the viewpoint of any one denomination or group; nor does
it have ANY connection to cell churches or the "Open Church" restoration
system. This is also not written as a practical handbook on "how to worship
in small groups" although I agree such a handbook might be useful." Read
Part
One and Part Two.
(33) Third
Wave False Teachings by Rev. Joseph Chambers, 2000
"Any person caught up in these false doctrines needs deliverance.
The first thing to do is to cease every expression of these ideas.
Second, claim the Blood of Jesus to free you of any bondage that relates
to this activity. Then, stay out of Charismatic New Wave churches,
where these activities are constantly promoted." This is a perspective
from a Pentecostal pastor.
(34) God
Versus Man-Centered Spirituality by Rev. Bill Randles, 2000
"The church is currently being divided. Like the broader culture
in which we live, Pentecostal and charismatic, and to a large extent, the
Evangelical world, is engaged in a profound philisophical struggle. None
of the old dividing lines are adequate. It is no longer liberal or
conservative, or "Spirit-filled" versus "cessationist". The real scism
goes deeper."
(35) Review
Of "The God Chasers" By Tommy Tenney by Rev. Joseph Chambers, 2000
"The Charismatic “New Wave” receives one of its most descriptive
promotions in this new book, The God
Chasers. The gods so clearly revealed in this book are the
esoteric gods of paganism and Satanism, not the true
Jehovah God of Holy Scripture."
(36) The
New Thing by Mike Oppenheimer, 2000
"The Kingdom Now view has no imminency of the Lord. No rapture or
a great falling away, then there is no need for discernment, to be on Guard
to be deceived. In its place it panders to our pride, Christians being
offered powers beyond the normal capability of anyone before. Sounds wonderful
doesn't it! After all we can use these powers to change the world. It offers
triumphalism to the few, and ruling without Christ's physical coming, becoming
eternal beings on earth. What a deception indeed."
(37) The
Covert Strategies Of The False Revival by Cross + Word, 2000
"Are Churches using a form of brainwashing to alter the minds of
Believers?"
(38) The
Age Of Aquarius by Sydney W. Hunter
"Bible believers know that God has said that the day is coming when
there will be a one-world government; a oneworld apostate church (made
up of all religions left behind when Christ takes the true church away
- I Thessalonians 4:14-18); one-world financial control (the mark of the
Beast, etc.); a one-world dictator who poses as Christ, etc. Knowing these
things we are not surprised to see them budding in movements like The Promise
Keepers, charismatic circuses, the Pope's growth in popularity, Middle-East
struggles, Big Brother's growing invasion into personal liberties, etc.We
acknowledge that there must be millions of people caught up in movements
which are part of coming events, who have no idea of the direction in which
they are going. They don't see the "Big Picture."
(39) Last
Days Leaven by Don Clasen, The Kingdom Gospel Messenger, Vol.8,
No.1, January 1996
"...There is a logic marching through the land that is so compelling
given its premises, and so protected from criticism by a "political" decision
made long ago in Charismatic circles to pursue unity--not the Scriptural
way by discussing doctrinal differences (Eph 4:15)--but by ignoring or
suppressing them, a problem that has only been aggravated by an even greater
unwillingness to talk about eschatological differences. Furthermore, this
logic has also come in under cover of a growing trend towards subjective
experiences, doctrines built on false revelations and prophecies, and a
tendency to ignore or minimalize the Scriptures. Furthermore, it is being
fueled by a spirit that seems so right yet is of such a carnal and earthly
wisdom of men at best, and demonic at worst, that I doubt many even realize
what is happening to us. What I am talking about is the trend towards "Kingdom
Now" or "Dominion" theology."

Destroyed Foundations -The Word
(40) The Hallmarks Of The New Spirituality by Alan Morrison,
5/00
"Every religion has its hallmarks; and the New Spirituality which
we discover everywhere today is no exception. In this paper, we survey
ten of its universal hallmarks, clearly showing their deceptions and designs.
Many of these hallmarks were apparent, or at least incipient, within the
teachings of the Gnosticism which was prevalent in the Early Church era;
but with increased development and syncretism they found their fullness
in its more recent manifestations -- the New Gnosticism. Some hallmarks
have been specially created for the circumstances and requirements of the
present time. But they all share the same motivation: to undermine the
foundations of the Lord's people, to cast to one side the concept of a
Transcendent Personal God, to overthrow the teachings of the Holy Bible,
and to contribute towards the building of Satan's earthly kingdom." (Site
down, was at: http://www.diakrisis.org/Hallmarks.htm)
(41) The Apostolic
Movement by Inner City Discernment Ministry, 2000
A collection of articles on the "New Apostolic Reformation" movement
of people like C. Peter Wagner. "The most dangerous purveyors
of deception are today's restored apostles and prophets. Why?
Because they purport to speak for our Lord and they claim to hold
the greatest authority over the direction of the Church and the lives of
God's people. These apostles & prophets are the people that the majority
of the other leaders in the charismatic movement look to for new insights,
revelation, and vision for the future of the Church."
(42) Luring
People To Destruction By The Unscrupulous Use Of The "Gospel" Message
by Sandy Simpson, 6/8/00
"I already know that
this article will be unpopular. The idea that people can be seduced by
the unscrupulous use of the Gospel message may sound heretical in and of
itself. People like Benny Hinn have been credited from time to time
with having preached the Gospel pretty straight and people seem to be professing
faith in Christ. I have heard the argument from Phil.
1:14-18 used over and over in this regard. Let
me pose some questions that will hopefully help you focus on this issue
before launching into my short thesis."
(43) Deception
Within The Church by Chris Barhorst, The Watchman Expositor, Vol.
8, No. 7, 1991
"Many Christians are
aware that groups like Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, etc. are laced with
error to the point of being classified as cults. But few realize the potential
danger of erroneous teachings within the body of Christ. The apostle Paul
warned that; not only would false teachers attempt to infiltrate the Christian
church from the outside, but that also from within, men would arise speaking
perverse things, to draw away disciples after them (Acts 20:29-30)."
(44) Did
You Buy A Used Vehicle From This Man? by Sandy Simpson, 7/00
"C. Peter
Wagner has been writing books for a long time. Some people never
change their sales pitch. The same used vehicle still sits on the
same lot."
(45) Third
Wave NeoPragmatism - Christianity's New White Witchcraft? by Sandy
Simpson, 8/00
A paper dealing with the
rash of materials on the Christian market on "How To". Shouldn't
the Word of God be our playbook?
(46) The Hallmarks Of The New Spirituality by Alan Morrison,
The
Serpent And The Cross, Chapter 5
"Every religion has its
hallmarks; and the New Spirituality which we discover everywhere today
is no exception. In this paper, we survey ten of its universal hallmarks,
clearly showing their deceptions and designs. Many of these hallmarks were
apparent, or at least incipient, within the teachings of the Gnosticism
which was prevalent in the Early Church era; but with increased development
and syncretism they found their fullness in its more recent manifestations
-- the New Gnosticism. Some hallmarks have been specially created
for the circumstances and requirements of the present time. But they all
share the same motivation: to undermine the foundations of the Lord's people,
to cast to one side the concept of a Transcendent Personal God, to overthrow
the teachings of the Holy Bible, and to contribute towards the building
of Satan's earthly kingdom." (Site down, was at:

(47) Sons
Of Zadok by Jacob Prasch, Moriel Minsitries, 6/01
"If your minister is a Zadokite -- if he is somebody who will kick
the alien out, who will give the people what God says they need, who ministers
to the Lord rather than to men, in whom there is no mixture in what he
teaches, believes and does, who will rather rest in the Lord than strive
in the flesh, who will teach people to discern, and who will take a stand
in a dispute -- if that is your pastor, you stand by him. You pray for
him, you support him financially, and you help him in any way you can.
He may not be a perfect man, but he is a good man, and he is God’s man.
You stand by him, you pray for him, you support him, you be loyal to him
so long as he is loyal to the Word of God. He needs your prayers, he deserves
your support, and he is entitled to your help. "
(48) Can You Be Deceived?
Why
People Are Duped and How Not to Be by G. Richard Fisher, Personal
Freedom Outreach, 2000
"The inspired Apostle Paul warned us: “Let no one deceive you” (2
Thessalonians 2:3). It is apparent that we are vulnerable to deception
and we must not forget it. We must be on guard and protect ourselves against
it. There is deception everywhere in the religious world. We must be alert.
"
(49) Charismatic
Cultism by Kevin Reeves, 8/01
The testimony of an elder in a church that jumped in the "river" and
his comparison of the Third Wave to cults and cultic behavior. This is
an excellent article exposing the cultic methods and teachings of the Third
Wave and New Apostolic Reformation, now also called the "Saints Movement".
It is by no means an indictment against all charismatics, as there are
some who have not jumped in the "river" of the Third Wave and are holding
to
the authority of the Scriptures. There are also many other denominations
who have opened their doors to the false teachers in the Third Wave, Word-Faith
and New Apostolic Reformation who are not excluded from this warning.
Be a Berean. Learn to discern. Don't be intimidated out of
testing all things and judging rightly.
(50) Elijah,
Where Are You? by Dr. Orrel Steinkamp, The Plumbline, Vol. 6, No.
3, May/June 2001
A good synopsis of the falsehood of the manifestations in the Third
Wave. "We need some authentic prophets to challenge the prophets of
Baal."
(51) How
To Identify A Cult by Lorri MacGregor, 1988
Though this article is written about the already recognized cults of
Christianity, it gives us a roadmap with which to identify present and
future cults of Christianity, of which the Third Wave movement iwould be
included.
(52) Laughter
In The Bible by Lorri MacGregor, 1988
"In our present day, Psalms 2, verse 4 is used by followers of Rodney
Howard Browne, and the so-called "laughing evangelist" himself to supposedly
support uncontrolled, riotess laughter encouraged in his meetings. I have
a cassette tape of his where he says, "if God can sit on his throne in
the heavens and laugh", then why can't we do the same? He paints a picture
of God dissolving into helpless mirth and uncontrollable joyous laughter
and primes his audience by shouting "Ha, ha, ha, ho, ho, ho". Let's examine
Psalms 2:4. Not surprisingly, it is exactly in the same context as all
the other scriptures that record God laughing. Never in joy, never during
worship, never in mirth, never to be amused, only in derision against His
enemies. He is not frivolous in his laughter, nor is He out of control.
He laughs in judgment. Let's read Psalms 2:2-5."

Ministries
Exposing anti-Trinitarians including Tommy Tenney,
Creflo Dollar, Rod Parsley, T.D. Jakes, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Gwen
Shamblain, Arnold Murray, Joseph Goode.
(54) Understanding
The New Gnosticism by Don Clasen, December 2001
"... these deeper life teachings on the soul
and spirit have led to a general dislike for and impatience with things
intellectual, conceptual, doctrinal or rational. Apparently, people
taken up with this neo-gnostic attitude do not like to deal with facts
so much. Such things are just not that esoteric enough for them I
suppose. But those are the very sorts of things our faith is built
upon, and good judgment is dependent upon."
(55) Truth
Crisis Threatens Churches' Future, Report Warns by Andy Butcher,
CHARISMA NEWS SERVICE, Tue, Feb 12, 2002, Vol. 3 No. 225
"It's not only the world that no longer believes
in right and wrong - acceptance of absolute truth is fast disappearing
in the church, too. Almost as many Christians are likely to base their
moral decisions on what they feel rather than what the Word teaches, according
to a new survey."
(56) Gnosticism:
The Gnostic Jesus, A Gnostic Christianity by Mike Oppenheimer,
Let Us Reason Ministries, 2/02
"History has a funny way of repeating itself.
As Christianity first began to grow, spiritual competition began to surface.
As Paul, and the other apostles labored to build up the house of God which
was to be the pillar and ground of the truth, the enemy also labored and
bore the first competitor to the Church, Gnosticism. This was the first
heresy that the church had to contend against."
(57) Touch
Not My Anointed by Mike Oppenheimer, Let Us Reason Ministries,
3/02
"This has become the cliché to build
a wall of protection around certain teachers, but are they taking it out
of context? What does it really mean?"
(58) Logic,
Perspicacity And A Touch Of Common Sense by Mike Oppenheimer, Let
Us Reason Ministries, 12/03/01
"Finding Waldo is hard enough, but can you
find the statements of your favorite teachers among the other false religions?"
(59) The
Future History Of The Church - Part 1 by Jacob Prasch, Moriel Ministries
"Jesus was betrayed, Jesus was crucified,
Jesus was raised victorious. We are going to be betrayed, we are going
to be crucified, and we are going to be raised victorious." Go

(60) Gnostic
Teaching by William MacDonald, One Day At A Time, April 10, pg.
110
"They (Gnostics) probably said something
like this to the Christians: "What you have is good, but we have additional
truth. We can take you beyond the simple teachings and initiate you
into new and deeper mysteries. If you are going to be full-grown
and fulfilled, you need out teachings."
(61) Testimonies
e-mails sent to Let Us Reason Ministries, 4/25/02

and the cults."
(62) The
Divine Aristocracy by Jacob Prasch, Moriel Ministries Newsletter,
July/August 2002
"You are of the nobility. You are of the aristocracy, though it
may not be evident yet. The time is coming, however, when all will see
who is rich and who is poor."
(63) The
New Pharisees by Kevin Reeves, 1/03
While many in Church
leadership cannot in all fairness be called Pharisees in the strictest
sense of the word, much current practice and belief has robbed sincere
Christians congregants of the freedom they first knew in coming to Christ.
Especially in "Third Wave" church groups, a movement in which my former
congregation is an active participant, a new set of "laws" has been instituted
that, little by little, add invisible chains to a person's relationship
with Christ. Shackles, blinders, and a muzzle have replaced uplifted hands,
open spiritual eyes, and lips that were meant to praise--and question--without
fear.
(65) Entertainment-style
Christianity vs. Interactive-style Christianity by Sandy Simpson,
5/04
Today, in a majority of churches, we see the result of the seeker-friendly,
"purpose-driven", church growth, Third Wave, New Apostolic Reformation
methods and teachings and their product I am calling "Entertainment-style
Christianity" (EST). But EST churches are not only missing out on
the cutting edge of true Christianity, but are heading down the road to
apostasy.
(66) Divination
Finds Further Expression In The Evangelical Church by Orrel Steinkamp,
The Plumbline, Volume 9, No. 3, June/July
Divination?
Divination is condemned in Scripture (Deut. 18:9-14; 2 Kings 17:1718)
and therefore a very negative term. But, divination in the
evangelical Church? Has Plumbline crossed over the line or gone out
of kilter on this topic? To put it in current parlance, this must
be way "outside the box." Nevertheless, as you read this entire newsletter,
I think you will come to agree that divination is definitely "inside the
box," alive and well in many of our churches.
(67) The
Dangers of Divination by Bob DeWaay
One
of the claims I often hear from those who use techniques to gain spiritual
information is this: "Methods are neutral." Another statement often made
by the purveyors of new techniques for "hearing from God" is: "God cannot
be limited, He can use anything." My intent is to show from Scripture that
the first of these statements is false and the second is misleading.
(68) The
Dake Annotated Bible by Dan Dufek
Mr.
Dake calls the Triune Godhead ridiculous and unscriptural and states that
the only way that God can be three and one simultaneously is that God is
Three distinct persons and that the oneness of God refers only to unity
of purpose.
(69) Replacement Theology,
Biblical Or A Teaching Of Men? by Mike Oppenhiemer, Let
Us Reason Minstries, 10/08/05
At a time when Bible prophecy is most important we find the church
having less knowledge of it, especially what relates to Israel. Most evangelical
Christians have supported the Jews and the modern state of Israel, but
things are changing. The church from its infancy believed that God had
a future plan for Israel based on Scripture (Acts 3:19), this included
a national restoration of Israel in the same land they were eventually
dispersed from. As time went on and the church moved further away from
her Jewish beginnings and roots many began to believe the church replaced
Israel. But in the day and age when we see biblical prophecy being fulfilled,
with God’s continual protection and restoration of the Jews to the land,
there should be none that hold unbelief of his promises; BUT THERE ARE.
(70) The
TBN Spring 2008 Praise-a-Thon Report by Michael C. Gaudiosi, The
Noble Berean, Volume 30, April 6th, 2008
THE CIRCUS IS BACK IN TOWN! Yes, it’s that time again! The TBN Spring
Praise-a-Thon, where for one week, the parade of celebrity preachers grace
our TV screens with promises of health, wealth and prosperity, BUT you
must give a monetary offering (specific amounts to be determined), to TBN…and
TBN ALONE!! That’s right, the promised health, wealth and prosperity only
come to you if…and only if you give exclusively to TBN. Giving to your
local church, or a biblically based ministry does not count!

(72) Four Movements

in without doing research. Don’t make the same mistake!
(73) Does the Bible
teach us that angels visit us? Can see them or summon them? by
Mike Oppenheimer, Let Us Reason Ministries, 7/9/08
Angels are subject to the God-man Jesus Christ, not to man. We cannot
summon them or order them to do our bidding even if it is something God
wants to be done. Only God orders the angels, they are under his jurisdiction
and control.

A
Whole Lot Of Wishful Thinking These Days!
by Sandy Simpson
This DVD series is a teaching based on this
article.
In this DVD series I want to detail a number of beliefs people have
these days that have no basis in Scripture. I am going to roam all
over the map, so to speak, and try to give fairly short answers on a number
of topics and also give you useful links to articles that will help you
deal with any particular issue. It is truly amazing how many false
ideas people cling to without giving a thought to what the Bible has to
say on the subject.

Donations
Accepted!
First of all, the best way you can support this web site is to
be a Berean. Search the Scriptures daily and stand firm in your faith against
the apostasy of the last days. It would give me great joy if more Christians
would learn to discern! Secondly, please continue to uphold this
ministry in prayer. The expository nature of this site has brought down
the wrath of the enemy countless times. Thirdly, there are many
costs involved in running this site as well as providing research and materials
so that you will be armed with the truth. I send out three separate newsletters
and provide other apologetics materials free of charge to Christian leaders
in this area of the world. I am a full time missionary supported by sending
churches in the U.S. For some years I did not ask for support but some
people have sent me support and asked how they can help, so I want to provide
the following information. Please don't neglect other Christian ministries
that uphold the truth as God lays them on your heart. There are many.
My contact information if you wish to send in monetary support is:
