"Christians" Who Try To Poke Holes In Sola Scriptura
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD is a message based on this article: "Christians" Who Try To Poke Holes In Sola Scriptura

There are a number of the leadership of the Emerging Church (EC) who do not believe that the Bible is the highest authority for the Christian faith.  Most do not believe that the Bible is inerrant in the original manuscripts and many do not acknowledge that the Bible is our highest revelation.  Yet this is a core doctrine over which true believers and false brethren must separate. Those who try to poke holes in Sola Scriptura make excuses like (1) we need to reinterpret the Bible through the lens of postmodern culture and religion (2) the Bible never uses the words "Sola Scriptura" therefore it is not a Biblical concept (3) there is new revelation for the church through the Holy Spirit apart from what is written and the precepts of the Bible and (4) the Bible just doesn't address our postmodern situation therefore we cannot rely on it for the truth and answers for our problems today.  I will prove that all the above arguments, and more, from EC leaders and others is exactly what they are teaching.  I will give you quotes from their teachings, videos and books. The postmodern church and its "movements" are abandoning Sola Scriptura in their rush to be like the Roman Catholic Church, which takes its authority from a mix of Scripture and tradition.

"As a result the Church, to whom the transmission and interpretation of Revelation is entrusted, "does not derive her certainty about all revealed truths from the holy Scriptures alone. Both Scripture and Tradition must be accepted and honored with EQUAL sentiments of devotion and reverence." (Roman Catholic Catechism, Given October 11, 1992, the thirtieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, in the fourteenth year of my Pontificate. Page 31).

Updated DVD!
The Question Of Dominion
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD is a message based on this article: The Question Of Dominion.

I am writing this article as an apologetic against the Third Wave, Latter Rain, Word of Faith and Reformed Theology teachings that the Church is to rise up and take over the systems of government, businesses and every other aspect of life. "See, the problem is, is that Satan has had too much of his way in our society because he has a government!  And the only way to overthrow a government is with a government.  It won’t happen otherwise.  So therefore the government of the church has to get into place in the extended church just like we do have it very well in place, we haven’t reached our goal yet ..."  (Transcript of C. Peter Wagner, Arise Prophetic Conference, Gateway Church, San Jose, CA, 10-10-2004) Wagner has substituted the "government of the church" for the coming government of Jesus Christ in the Millennial Kingdom.  Wagner is "Kingdom Now" while the Bible teaches "Kingdom Come". What I wanted to do with this article is put the issue of dominion to rest by studying the definition the Bible gives to dominion and ruling authority.  When we look at the subject we can easily ascertain what is going on today and what God requires of the Church.

Shepherd Or Hireling?
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD is a message based on the article: "Shepherd Or Hireling?"

The Bible lays out the definitions of both an overseer (under shepherd) and a hireling.  John 10:11-13  I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. (KJV)  1 Tim. 3:1-3   Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. (NIV)  Titus 1:7-13  Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. Even one of their own prophets has said, "Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons." This testimony is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith. (NIV) A hireling does not really care about being a watchman, but is more concerned with protecting his reputation, position and income.  A true watchman will guard the flock against wolves from within (Acts 20:30) and without (Acts 20:29) no matter the cost to his reputation, position or income. Following is a little quiz you can take to see if you are a true Biblical under shepherd as a leader in your church, are becoming a hireling, or are one now.

Testing Music In The Church
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD is a message based on these articles: Testing Music In The Church, Testing Music In The Church-Part 2, and Worship Song Ratings.

Too many churches today are allowing music to be used in their services that is not glorifying to the Lord and can actually be a hindrance to the teaching of sound doctrine. Pastors and leaders should be using their leadership role to test what is being played and sung in their churches. Though some are quick to test preaching and teaching from their pulpits, many ignore the music being used in the same services. This is a tragic mistake. Music is a powerful medium. It is something that effects deeply the body, mind and emotions. It is a proven fact that music often stays with a person far longer than what is taught or preached. Songs roam around in our heads, especially if the melody appeals to us. What is often overlooked is the serious impression music makes on people, and the teaching they are getting over and over again as they allow the song to repeat in their minds and on their lips. Music teaches things much more subtly yet sometimes far more effectively. That's why the lyrical content of music in the church, as well as its effect on the spiritual lives of those who perform and listen, should be vigorously examined by the leaders of the church.  This is a 2-DVD set.

Examine Yourselves & Hold On!
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD is a message based on the articles "Examine Yourself To See If You Are In The Faith" and "Hold On!"

2 Cor. 13:5  Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.
Do you not realise that Christ Jesus is in you— unless, of course, you fail the test?

People who call themselves followers of Christ or "Christians" and claim they are born again must believe certain things.  If they do not then they fail the test of faith.  They can claim they are born again all they want and "once saved, always saved" but if they fail the test of faith there is no eternal security.  Only God knows who will be saved, from beginning to end, because of His foreknowledge and omniscience (Rom. 8:29, 1 Pet. 1:2).  God did not make an arbitrary judgment about who would be saved and who would not.  His Spirit is given to those He foreknew, when convicted of sin by His Holy Spirit, would choose to believe and commit themselves to Jesus Christ.  We are not God and we do not have His omniscience.  Therefore, according to Paul, we must be sure our belief system is in the right place once our eyes have been opened to the Truth.  I am not saying we do not have assurance of salvation, but our assurance comes not only because of His Atonement and promises of salvation but from our continuing in the Faith, which is always the Biblical criteria. Those who would be Bible teachers must teach according to the whole counsel of God's Word.  Let me be clear. There is only one way to salvation.  That is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.  I will deal with a few of those issues following, but it is important to recognize that being saved is not just a matter of believing that Jesus lived, or that He was a man, or simply giving mental ascent to His existence in whatever form.

"Blasphemizing" The Bible
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD is a message based on this article.

I am going to go over an article I wrote back in 2006 in preparation for the book I wrote with Mike Oppenheimer called “Idolatry in Their Hearts”.  This book is an apologetic against the false teachings of the World Christian Gathering on Indigenous People movement, the Emerging Church and the New Apostolic Reformation which got their ideas from the book “Eternity in Their Hearts” by Don Richardson.  At the time that book came out no one really saw the dangerous ideas Richardson was promoting.  All they would have had to do was look at the two subtitles of that book to understand the implications.  The first subtitle in the 1981 edition read: The Untold Story of Christianity among Folk Religions of Ancient People.  Those who read this book found some interesting cross-cultural ideas but apparently missed the false premise of the book starting with the subtitle. How could Christianity be “among folk religions” where the Gospel had not been preached (Rom. 10:14-15)? At that time Christians who read the book were apparently satisfied that, though there was some questionable material present, it made for an interesting discussion on how to do cross-cultural ministry. The subtitle it has today, which was first published in 1984, is as follows: Startling Evidence of Belief in the One True God in Hundreds of Cultures Throughout the World.  This should have been a red flag for many Christians but then, who reads subtitles?  But how could the “One True God” be known to Gentiles who, the Bible states, did “not know God”.

Resources For Pastors
including
"Good English Bible Translations"
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD is a message based on this article.

I was talking with a pastor after a Wednesday night service and he mentioned that I said I had done an article comparing English Bible translations.  He called me up later and asked me to come back and present the contents of that article I sent out in about 2002 to my mailing list for the Pacific Waves Newsletter which, unfortunately, I can no longer afford to publish and mail.  However an archive of past issues of that newsletter can be found here. In that article I detailed a number of good and bad resources for pastors including Bible translations, concordances, commentaries, Bible dictionaries, etc.  I present an edited version of part of that article on this DVD, particularly dealing with English Translations of the Bible.  Translation is a very detailed endeavor and should only be undertaken by those with a proper education in that subject and a sound doctrinal background.  I read a few books on that subject and it helped me understand the complexities involved.  Hebrew is a rich language so it is hard to distill one Hebrew word down to one English word.  Greek is a very technical language and it is also not easy to translate.  This is why it is imperative to use the good English translations out there for comparison along with a good concordance and Bible dictionary.

A TALE OF TWO KINGDOMS
Kingdom Now or Kingdom Come?
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD is a message based on this article.

There are two kingdoms being taught in many churches today. Teaching about one of the kingdoms is on the decline while the other is being promoted all over the place.  I am warning Christians that they need to check out who is using the word "kingdom", the books they have been reading and recommend on building "the kingdom", the people they have been hanging out with at conferences, and what they mean by "the kingdom".

A Whole Lot Of Wishful Thinking These Days!
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD series is a teaching based on this article.

In this DVD series I want to detail a number of beliefs people have these days that have no basis in Scripture.  I am going to roam all over the map, so to speak, and try to give fairly short answers on a number of topics and also give you useful links to articles that will help you deal with any particular issue.  It is truly amazing how many false ideas people cling to without giving a thought to what the Bible has to say on the subject.

by Sandy Simpson

This 2-DVD series is a teaching based on this article.

From Church To Emerging Church DVD Series
by Sandy Simpson
The issue of the Emerging Church and it's introduction into many churches and mission organizations has reached a critical point.  Many do not undersand what is being leavened into churches by the EC leadership.  Many would be shocked to know their belief systems involve Universalism, New Age, defense of postmodernism, Interfaithism, and many other false doctrines.  In order to reach out to this generation the EC leadership is proposing a whole new "map" to deal with what they perceive is a lack of understanding on the part of the churches on how to communicate.  EC proponants believe the "scripture" for today is evolving and must change in order to reach postmoderns.

Idolatry In Their Hearts
Landmark Book!
by Sandy Simpson & Mike Oppenheimer
Does having eternity in your heart mean that you know God and are His child? Could Gentile cultures understand the Gospel from the stars? Did God create man's cultures? Has God always been in the process of redeeming cultures from the time of Babel by placing in them a true revelation of Himself? Is there the worship of YHWH in all cultures and religions through the names of supreme beings?  Have all cultures always had a way to make things right between them and God? These questions and many more are answered in this book that addresses the false teachings of The New Apostolic Reformation regarding missiological methods as being carried out by many agencies including the World Christian Gathering on Indigenous People, YWAM, and many Bible societies.

Lessons In Forgiveness
Great Study!
by Sandy Simpson

Through the years I have been presented with many opportunities to forgive. Sometimes the situation was so severe that it took me some time to forgive and start the process of healing for myself, and eventually for others. I learned that a Christian needs to forgive other people even if they have not repented of their sins. That can be really hard if we let it be hard. But if we give our burdens over to the Lord, He will carry them and that frees us up to treat other people with love, compassion, and be in the right frame of mind and heart to set them up for reconciliation with Jesus Christ. That does not mean we tolerate their sin. We simply forgive them for what they have done to us, whether perceived or real, and move on to looking for ways to redeem them. We can then present to them the "truth in love" even when we have to rebuke them.

(20) The Toronto Curse by Sydney W. Hunter, 1996
"Satan is very concerned about people who have a heart toward God, those who want to know Him and enjoy His blessings. Satan is also clever enough to know his most effective attack against them is to use deceit. Was it not effective against Eve (Gen. 3)? Did he not try to use it against our Saviour (Matt. 4 and Luke 4)? Be sure he is using it effectively to wreck havoc in many churches today."

(21) The Toronto Blessing? Also Called "Holy Laughter" by David L. Brown, Th.M, 1992
"Ephesians 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight (kubeia -- playing dice; implies trickery or fraud) of men, and cunning craftiness (shrewdness, unscrupulousness), whereby they lie in wait (methodeia = a method or plan) to deceive; ... children can be easily deceived and if there is an evil purpose in the deception they can be easily led astray and harmed. Paul was writing to the Ephesian believers urging them not to behave like gullible children. He wanted them to be rooted in the Word of God so when some new doctrinal fraud came along, some new shortcut to spiritually came along, they would not get caught up in it."

(22) Is The Laughter Phenomenon Scriptural? by Dr. Eddy Cheong, 1995
"There is not one single verse in the Bible which says that when the anointing of the Holy Spirit comes upon a person that person laughs. Secondly, it is a fallacy to equate the word `Joy' with `Laughter' for the simple reason that these two words have different and distinct root words both in Hebrew as well as in Greek."

(23) A Memoir Of "The Vineyard" by Cheryl Thomson, 1994
This is the gut-wrenching testimony of a couple who were seeking more power in their Christian lives but found out they had their eyes on power rather then on Christ. They were almost confused and led astray by the leaders of the Toronto/Brownsville phenomenon movement. The heartache that this couple went through should make anyone think twice before exposing themselves to these leaders or their churches. "I believe "The Vineyard movement" is playing an important role today in preparing the way for this terrible End-Time Delusion. It will be used to help spread the lie of the Antichrist himself. The "prophets" who are being promoted by The Vineyard and The Kansas City Fellowship will step forward, at the proper time, in churches all across America and Canada. They will all deliver the same message. It will be a message of spiritual deception, but many will be fooled into believing it. But the voices of these prophets will proclaim the Antichrist as God, welcoming him into the Holy of Holies. "

(24) Another "Vineyard Experience" by Rev. Gordon Williams, 1994

(25) An Interview with Pertti Tukiainen Interviewed & translated by Antti Huima, 1997
"Who is Pertti Tukiainen? A man who was healed from multiple sclerosis (MS sickness) in The Church of Great Helsinki, (A Toronto "Blessing" church) Spring 1995. His testimonial appeared on various net sites. Today, Pertti is not healed. Read the interview to get the details."

(26) Another Story Is Exposed To The Light by Deception In The Church, 1997
"Another Veil Is Torn In Two" is an article about an event that took place at a Toronto "Blessing" type church in Houston that has been passed around since October 1996. What I would like to do is quote from the article and give you my comments in bold as we go along. There are some factors involved in this "sign and wonder" that make it very hard for me to believe that this is a sign from God."

(27) Looking Beyond Toronto by Banner Ministries, 1997
Good article on the doctrines that drive the current "counterfeit" revival such as the Latter-Rain, Restoration Movement, Manifest Sons of God and Dominion theologies which espouse some of the following tenants: replacement theology, rejection of pre-millenial doctrines, the wicked raptures, the dominion mandate, spiritual warfare in the heavenlies, new revelation, "without spot or wrinkle", restroration of the apostles and prophets, unity, manifestation of the sons of God, the Feast of Tabernacles, astonishing signs and wonders, the "religious" old generation, and death destroyed.

(28) A Testimony Of A Couple In Walsall, UK  J & Y J., 1995
The experiences of some Christians at the hands of "Toronto Blessing" officials in England. Notice the total hedonism involved.

(29) Was Jonathan Edwards The Founding Father Of The Toronto Blessing? by Nick Needham Welling, 1995
This is a paper on what Jonathan Edwards actually said about the "negative" and "positive" signs of revival. "Apologists for the so-called Toronto "Blessing" have often appealed to the writings of the great American theologian, Jonathan Edwards (1703-58), to give an air of respectability to the experiences and manifestations which have taken place in their gatherings." If you take the time to compare the "negative" signs with the Toronto "Blessing" and Brownsville "Revival" you will quickly see that all of these "negative" signs exist in this modern movement.

(30) The Toronto Phenomenon: Is It Of God? by Cross + Word, 1994
"If the root be bad, then the fruit will be rotten - for no bad tree can bring forth good fruit. If we look at the roots, at Rodney Howard- Browne's ministry, at the theology behind the "revival", at the legacy of the Word-of-Faith preachers and the Kansas City Prophets, and at the headlong downward spiral into apostasy in certain parts of the Church, we cannot conclude that this present move reverses the trend and anoints with God's blessing things that have been so abhorrent and deceptive before."

(31) Background To The "Holy Laughter" Movement by Tom Smith, 1997
Background on many of the key players in the "counterfeit" revival movements. Includes a geneological chart.  Here's an alternate site for the same article.

(32) The Laughing Revival by George O. Wood, General Council Secretary, General Council of the Assemblies of God, USA, 1995
Read this assessment of the laughing revival before it hit Brownsville AOG, Pensacola by the former AOG General Council Secretary. Check out these two warnings he made to the Pentacostal movement and compare them to what is now happening at Brownsville. We disagree that speaking in tongues is a "normative Scriptural pattern" for the believer because not all gifts are for every believer (1 Cor. 12:28-31), but his warnings against making "unique" experiences the norm in Christian life should be a warning to all Christians, especially the AOG who let the cat out of the bag long ago via the "tongues" issue. "There are two very apparent dangers, however, inherent in the current laughing phenomena: (1) That it will assume a higher value than the Biblical experience of the baptism of the Spirit, or praying personally in other tongues. Sometimes I wonder if the unspoken sentiment of the laughing advocates may be: "You've had tongues, now let's go on to something new." In that context, Spirit-baptized believers, who have had a Biblically taught experience, are made to feel that they are incomplete. They have "only spoken with other tongues, but they haven't laughed." The Pentecostal revival will collapse within a generation if we even unthinkingly begin to devaluate genuine Bible taught experience in favor of new experiences not commanded or exampled in Scripture. One can truthfully say from the Bible, "If you have not been baptized in the Spirit. you have not received all God has for you;" but, one cannot say: "If you haven't yet laughed in the Spirit, you do not have all God wants for you." Laughing is unique; speaking with other tongues is the normative Scriptural pattern. Perhaps the new Secretary General of AOG would do well to read this second point! (2) Once you depart from experience which is rooted in Scripture to embrace spiritual phenomena of any sort, in all likelihood there will be further development in extreme manifestations. Witness the current phenomena: in some charismatic churches, roaring and even barking has begun. The roaring is explained as "The Lion of Judah." I do not know what the barking represents. I do know that if the spirit of prophets is subject to the prophet (I Cor. 14:32); then, surely the spirit of the roarer and barker is subject to them. Sometimes we need to call things by their real name: and I do not hesitate to say that barking and roaring is "weird." It either comes from a mistaken fleshly notion (the human flesh is capable of making a lot of commotion) or it is the devil roaring and his dogs barking. Let not the Pentecostal church get caught up in such mysticism totally devoid of any Scriptural root."

(33) Howling in the Church by Greg Koukl, 1995
"Somebody asked me this morning, "What do you think draws people into this?" Desire for the dramatic? The ordinary Christian life is boring. That's why. It's work. The ordinary Christian life is too ordinary. Instead people want to have this dramatic experience allegedly with God. People want to be different. The irony, ladies and gentlemen, is if Christians led the ordinary Christian life they would be different in all of the ways that really matter. When believers get off on tangents like this they are no different than the rest of the world doing loony-toon things. That's just what this is. Loony-toon. You can quote that."

(34) Kathryn Kuhlman - From "Occult ABC" by Kurt Koch, 1976
Here is a chapter from the famous book "Occult ABC" by Kurt Koch. It is significant that Koch felt he should include Kathryn Kuhlman in this book. This is the woman that Benny Hinn received his "anointing" from and whose grave he visits to receive more "anointing" on occasion. She is the same woman who was a mentor for John Arnott at the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship, where the Toronto "Blessing" subsequently began. Note the striking similarities between what is going on in the "counterfeit" revival movement today and Kuhlman's meetings. This is one of the bad seeds that started this whole mess to begin with. Would that more research were being done into the fantastic claims of "healings" today. Many of Benny Hinn's "miracles" have been debunked already. Yet adherants to this Third Wave movement continue to tell and retell completely unsubstantiated and subjective stories, because the "end justifies the means". We must continue to expose the false miracles, teaching and prophesy in this movement for what they are, while reaching out to the people who have been fooled by these Christian sorcerers with prayer and with arms of love. "When we recognize our own guilt, the desire to cast stones goes away. Nevertheless, we are not spared the necessary duty of acting as signposts to the Church of Christ, even when this means great heartache."

(35) Weighed and Found Wanting: Putting the Toronto Blessing in Context by Bill Randles, 1994
"With TBN, CBN, and Charisma Magazine and a host of other sources, error is having a field day these days! Never has the scripture been so easily fulfilled. II Timothy 3:6-7 "For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." Eleven chapter e-book with appendix from a Pentacostal minister's perspective. EXCELLENT!

(36) The Errors Of The Laughing Revival by Lolly Pope, 1996
"Glowing reports are given for the Laughing Revival, and its leaders warn that to resist this "renewal" is to resist God. Its adherents advise us not to try to figure it out. We are told by God Himself, though, to "prove all things" (1 Thess. 5:21), and we will not gullibly accept a movement merely because it is popular and enthusiastic. In fact, having tested the Laughing Revival, there are six Bible reasons which force us to reject it. "

(37) The Latter Rain Movement by Rev. Robert S. Liichow, 1997
"Today we rejoice that the Lord spared us from being blessed with the Toronto Blessing. He has continued to renew our minds with His Word and we have been brought out of great darkness into His marvelous light. We pray for our brothers and sisters who are walking in deception and have dedicated our lives to bringing as many of them out of deception as God will permit."

(39) Another Toronto "Blessing" Testimony by Jyri Hamalainen, 1997
"For a believer to not have their life built on the Word of God and sound teaching is the first step to swimming in dangerous waters. If you're not regularly coming under the sound teaching of His Word according to the Bible you are in danger of becoming deceived by strange doctrines. We're in the last days. The scriptures tell us to 1Ti 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. 2Ti 3:14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them". If we do not hold to the truth and believe 'experiences' 2Th 2:11 "And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie". Could the Toronto be a mimick of the Kundalini practice? There are too many similarities." (This link is no longer working. )

(40) One Fish That Jumped Out Of "The River" by Matt D., 1997
"When I finally made the decision to leave, it was as if my eyes were totally opened. The last meeting I attended was awful. False prophecy, trimphalism, TB, Word-of-Faith preached and not the Word of God. It was awful."

(41) Unbiblical Doctrines, Teachings and Phenomena of the Third Wave Counterfeit Revival Movement compiled by Deception In The Church, 1997
A document compiled from a few sources to give Christians a resource to cut through the issues involved in the "counterfeit" revival. This paper includes a short list of unbiblical doctrines, teachings and phenomena observed and documented in the Toronto "Blessing"/Pensocola "Outpouring" movement. Please refer to the document called "Influence Links Of The Third Wave Movement" for a more comprehensive list of the heretical doctrines of the Third Wave. This paper also features guiding principles on how to determine unbiblical doctrines, whether or not we are to test and judge as Christians, and practical guidelines on how to counsel people who have had emotional, physical and spiritual damage from this movement or have been demonized as a result of being "slain in the spirit" or at the "laying on of hands".

(42) Falling for the Lie: Questions & Answers about the "Toronto Blessing" by Alan Morrison, 1995
"Today, we have an entire generation of professing Christians who are deeply ignorant of the Bible and Church History. Having fallen prey to the 'trickery of men', they are being 'carried about with every wind of doctrine' (Eph.4:14). Instead of being allowed to dictate the Church's agenda, they need to be awakened to the fullness of their deception."

(43) TACF & Canadian Vineyard Churches Reconcile by Truthseekers, 1997
The Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship has reconciled and rejoined the Canadian Vineyard Churches. Unity in error. What a glorious thought!

(44) Why Three Years of Toronto And Still No Revival? by Jacob Prasch, 1997
"Peter’s message was always one of “Repent and be baptised. Save yourself from this crooked generation.” A message dealing with repentance and judgment. When the Holy Spirit really fell, when it really happened, on the first day, three thousand souls were saved. And thousands more were saved the next day. Day after day, after day, thousands of people were converted and born again. Thousands! A lot of people being born again is not revival. A lot of people being born again is the result of revival. You cannot revive that which was never alive to begin with. Revival is the church repenting and returning to its first love. A lot of people being saved is the proof of the pudding, it is the result of revival, it is the authentication that God is moving." (This article is in Acrobat .pdf format.)

(45) How To Evaluate a Spiritual Movement by John Edmiston, Eternity Online Magazine, 1997
"For the ... reasons (put forth in the article) I would urge you to stay away from the Toronto/Pensacola movement . Continue to seek the Lord's blessings in churches where there is good teaching. He is real. "

(46) John Scotland preaching at Toronto Airport Christian FellowshipAugust 1, 1997
"You'll need Real Player (it's a free download!) to see John Scotland preaching at Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship on August 1, 1997. He claims to have been continuosly "drunk on the spirit" for three years and imitates a rooster crowing while attempting to read from the Bible.  Is this the "Blessing" of Toronto?  Is this the Holy Spirit? Apparently the pastors of TACF think so because they are sitting in the front row lending their stamp of approval to the proceedings.  John Arnott, the head pastor at TACF, is there among them."  Other Third Wave idiocy is also available in audio and video files on this same page.

(47) The Dangers Of The Alpha Course by Deception In The Church, 1998
"The Alpha Course, though teaching some truth, also lays truth alongside error.  The wooing of people using the gospel message, only to later enslave them in ritualism, works salvation, and occult manifestations is one of the great deceptions of our time.  One of the cleverest ploys of the enemy in our day is to allow "unprincipled" men to use the salvation message as an enticment to unsuspecting and untrained people, thereby enabling "the devil a foothold" for fleshly manifestations and temptations in their lives.  The men who designed this course are laying error alongside truth, introducing error secretly ("pareisaxousinin" in Greek) the result of which will ruin the faith of the believer in the end.  The Bible says of this process: "But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves." (2 Pet. 2:1) Beware of the Alpha Course!" Read this article also by Chris Hand.

(48) Teach Healing? by Rev. Robert S. Liichow, 1998
"Got this in the mail a little while back and I thought it would be interesting for people to see that these folks at Toronto believe they can teach you how to heal the sick.  This is nothing new, because the "Happy Hunters" have been holding How to Heal the Sick Seminars for many many years.  In fact, my wife and I attended one in Ohio, and got to work directly with the Hunters. Can't you see the Apostle Paul holding a healing seminar in Ephesus (I can't)."

(49) The Toronto Blessing by Nick Needham, 1998
"I would suggest that we can account for the TB by a combination of hypnotic power and influence, and supernatural demonic power. To keep ourselves safe against such deceptive movement, we need a true understanding of how the Holy Spirit works in the believer; and Scripture leads us to the conclusion that He works through the Word of God, through the truth, and that the first point of contact that the Spirit uses in us is our minds, our understandings. We must therefore reject all so-called spiritual experiences that by-pass or short-circuit the mind, or are not produced by the spiritual application of truth to the mind and heart. We must make sure that we have a spirituality that gives a prominent place to our minds, to understanding the truth, and we must make sure that Scripture is central in our relationship with God, and also in our worship of God, through the preaching and teaching of God's word. Isaiah [Esaias] 8:20: "To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them."  Go here for Part 1 & Part 2 of this article, or follow the links in the article itself.

(50) The Way Of Cain - New Teachings in the Christian Church - Where Are They Leading Us? by Lisa Havener, 1999
"Leaders of the movement teach that doctrine and theology are critical and divisive, and unimportant anyway, so many have been lulled into putting them aside. But are doctrine and theology really unimportant? Without them, what sets Jesus apart from Buddha? What sets the biblical way of salvation apart from any other religious system? Doctrine and theology refer to the bedrock of truth every hope of our faith is built on. Our spiritual welfare and the eternal destiny of souls depend on them. The fact is, this movement does hold a theology and doctrines of its own and it would be wise to take stock of them. If they are biblical, they will not be harmed by scrutiny. The great majority following are doing so with a false impression of what they are following."

"On Monday 25 September 2000 I went to hear Nicky Gumbel and his ALPHA team in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast. According to the Belfast Telegraph advert [16 September] this was 'An opportunity to explore the meaning of life'.  In this assessment I want to focus exclusively upon my first hand encounter at the meeting with Nicky Gumbel's 'gospel' presentation. ”

(55) "All That Glitters …" - Gold dust/pó de ouro/poudre d'or: The story of Silvânia Machado by Venefredo Barbosa Vilar, April 24, 2002
"According to her version, I must conclude that God gave her the unction of gold and she went ahead throughout the world - Brazil, United States, Canada, England, Switzerland - testifying this wonder.  Sometime later, God transubstantiated the gold into plastic without telling her a word about it, pushing her into trouble.  She only discovered this when I hosted her at home.  I don't know how theologians will explain such a situation that compromises God's character!"

(56) The Powers Behind The Alpha Course by Elizabeth McDonald and Dusty Peterson, Discernment Newsletter, July/August 2002
"Alpha is exploding in America. In the last year alone the number of courses running in the U.S. has leapt by over 90%. But Alpha comes from a single Episcopal Fellowship in England, thus not all American churches looking at the Course are familiar with its roots. (The fact that almost all references to the spiritual roots of Alpha have been removed from present editions of the talks obviously does not help!) These details prove to be immensely important when considering Alpha…"

(56) The Alpha Course - Chapter And Verse On Alpha's Jesus by Elizabeth McDonald and Dusty Peterson, Media Spotlight Vol 25 no. 4 cir. 01/03
Readers have now seen (Nicky) Gumbel systematically teach that Jesus' divinity was only partial and derivative. By his own admission, the common term for the great bulk of Gumbel's teaching on the Trinity is "Arian", after Arius (cir. AD 250-336)--a man who popularized this falsehood among the early Christians and who was excommunicated" as a result.

I can only pray for those caught up in false teaching and deception and especially pray that He might open their eyes and bring them out as He brought me out. Will you join me?

(59) The Toronto Deception by a former Toronto Vineyard Pastor, 11/06
It has taken me nine years to actually come to the place where I would write this story.  Part of the reason was because I was not fully convinced that it is appropriate to speak out against weaknesses in the body of Christ publicly.  Another reason is because it has taken years of soul searching to become convinced that what happened in the Toronto Airport Church was actually all bad or at least more bad than good!

(60) Know Anyone Chronically Pro-Alpha?…at last there’s an effective cure by Jacob Prasch, Moriel Ministries, 7/27/08
Alpha devotees are often so spiritually ill that they will angrily reject ANY criticism of the Course.  This means normal attempts to help such people invariably prove fruitless (as well as detrimental to your relationship with them and thus harmful to your scope for nursing them through other spiritual sicknesses in the future).

(62) The Dragnet Behind Alpha, Vineyard, ‘‘Purpose--Driiven’’, ‘‘Toronto’’ etc. - The key network underlying the Alpha Course before release in ’92 by Bayith Ministries, 2000
Bayith Ministries seeks to produce materials that are as
valuable as possible. This chart is no exception, for it not
only supplies the key spiritual roots of: Holy Trinity
Brompton (HTB); Rick Warren; John Wimber; and the
Toronto Experience (TE), but it also: shows at a glance the key roots of all the other names on the chart; demonstrates that they are all part of the same tree (and thus that Alpha and the TB emanated from the same source, despite what some people try to claim); and reveals what you and I are really legitimizing
if we promote Alpha1 or ‘Purpose Driven’ or Vineyard or
‘Toronto’.2 (All the chart’s interconnections have been
documented and source-referenced in a page on the ‘Better Than Rubies’ section of our website – bayith.org.)

(63) The Alpha Course – Final Answer or Fatal Attraction? by G. Richard Fisher, PFO; Vol 18, No 4.
The idea of a fatal attraction has come to mean a relationship that was thought to be wonderful, finally turning out to destroy a person. The Alpha Course may very well fit that description as it claims to take people through Bible terrain but in reality turns them inward to their emotions and experiences. It locks them into a detour and cycle of fickle emotions, carnal feelings and self-focus and away from the true lover of their souls. It will be another fad that will leave people dazed, confused, and worse off in the long run. So-called Holy Ghost weekends cannot compare to a sane and balanced daily walk with Jesus Christ through the Scriptures.

(2) Randy Clark Resigns From Vineyard by MKG, PFO, January-March 2002
"I was told that my Arminian leanings were alienating me from about 70% of the Vineyards. ... More particularly my open view of God was alienating me from many Vineyards," he wrote in his letter. Clark revealed his association with open theist Greg Boyd, stating that he had invited Boyd to speak with him at two of his conferences over the past few years. But, Clark maintains, it has only been recently that he read Boyd's volume on the subject, so "I guess I was a case of guilt by association." anointed by Rodney Howard-Browne

(4) The Toronto Blessing and the Laughing Revival by Gary Gilley, Think On These Things, October 1999 - Volume 5, Issue 10
Soon Howard-Browne began influencing others, but on a small scale. Then, while preaching at Carpenter’s Home Church in Lakeland, Florida, in 1993, laughter in the Spirit once again broke out bringing Howard-Browne out of obscurity. One of his disciples was Pastor Randy Clark from St. Louis, Missouri. It was Clark (who had already experienced strange phenomenons in his church) who preached the revival sermon in Toronto that ignited the whole movement. The Revival has since spread like wildfire, especially in Vineyard and Charismatic circles, and in recent years has penetrated all kinds of denominations.

(5) The Toronto Blessing - Part One by Dr. Nick Needham, Highland Theological College, Dingwall, Scotland IV15 9HA, UK
An account of how Randy Clark received the blessing or anointing of the Spirit from Rodney Howard-Browne is found in the paper What in the World is Happening to us? This was written by Bill Jackson of the Vineyard movement to try to show that the TB is a good Biblical thing. Here is Bill Jackson's account of how the TB began: Randy Clark is the founding pastor of the Vineyard Christian fellowship in St. Louis. Missouri. After years of seeing little fruit and power in his ministry- he became desperately hungry for God. Hearing of unusual manifestations of God's presence through the ministry of South African evangelist Rodney Howard-Browne Randy attended one of Rodney's meetings in Tulsa Oklahoma. Randy was powerfully touched and, in going home, began to see a similar outbreak of the Spirit among his people.

Nicky Gumbel, who also is the vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton Church (HTB) in London, often affirms the popularity of Alpha among Roman Catholics, as well as the identical nature of the program across denominations. In a 2012 interview with the Catalyst ministry at Willow Creek Church, Gumbel stated, “Alpha runs in every arm of the Church. It’s growing the fastest in the Catholic church. There are a billion Catholics in the world—many in Latin America, and in France where 99% are Catholic. But the course runs exactly the same no matter the denomination. In Alpha, we stick to the foundational pieces of the Christian faith we all agree upon: Jesus, the cross, the resurrection, the Bible, prayer. What unites us is infinitely greater than what divides us. We focus on what unites us. We present a united front to the world. In every different part of the body of Christ—Presbyterian, Baptist, Lutheran, non-denominational, Catholic, Pentecostals, Bulgarian Orthodox, Coptic Orthodox—Alpha crosses all divides."

Critical Missiological Issue!

The "Indigenous People's" (IPM) or "First Nations" movement is an unbiblical movement teaching heresies and doctrines of demons. It is being spread worldwide by YWAM, Don Richardson, John Dawson, Richard Twiss, Terry LeBlanc, Daniel Kikawa and many other adherents.  The IPM or World Christian Gathering On Indigenous People is full of the false teachings of the Third Wave, New Apostolic Reformation (NAR), Word-Faith, Dominionism, Latter Rain and many other false theological systems.  But it does have it's own distinctives that are driven by the works of Daniel Kikawa, Richard Twiss, and Don Richardson in particular.  They are teaching Christians to "redeem" their cultures by worshipping their former gods, pretending they are YHWH.

Donations Accepted!

First of all, the best way you can support this web site is to be a Berean. Search the Scriptures daily and stand firm in your faith against the apostasy of the last days. It would give me great joy if more Christians would learn to discern! Secondly, please continue to uphold this ministry in prayer. The expository nature of this site has brought down the wrath of the enemy countless times. Thirdly, there are many costs involved in running this site as well as providing research and materials so that you will be armed with the truth. I send out three separate newsletters and provide other apologetics materials free of charge to Christian leaders in this area of the world. I am a full time missionary supported by sending churches in the U.S. For some years I did not ask for support but some people have sent me support and asked how they can help, so I want to provide the following information. Please don't neglect other Christian ministries that uphold the truth as God lays them on your heart. There are many. My contact information if you wish to send in monetary support is:
