Read this assessment of the laughing revival before it hit Brownsville AOG, Pensacola by the former AOG General Council Secretary. Check out these two warnings he made to the Pentacostal movement and compare them to what is now happening at Brownsville. We disagree that speaking in tongues is a "normative Scriptural pattern" for the believer because not all gifts are for every believer (1 Cor. 12:28-31), but his warnings against making "unique" experiences the norm in Christian life should be a warning to all Christians, especially the AOG who let the cat out of the bag long ago via the "tongues" issue. "There are two very apparent dangers, however, inherent in the current laughing phenomena: (1) That it will assume a higher value than the Biblical experience of the baptism of the Spirit, or praying personally in other tongues. Sometimes I wonder if the unspoken sentiment of the laughing advocates may be: "You've had tongues, now let's go on to something new." In that context, Spirit-baptized believers, who have had a Biblically taught experience, are made to feel that they are incomplete. They have "only spoken with other tongues, but they haven't laughed." The Pentecostal revival will collapse within a generation if we even unthinkingly begin to devaluate genuine Bible taught experience in favor of new experiences not commanded or exampled in Scripture. One can truthfully say from the Bible, "If you have not been baptized in the Spirit. you have not received all God has for you;" but, one cannot say: "If you haven't yet laughed in the Spirit, you do not have all God wants for you." Laughing is unique; speaking with other tongues is the normative Scriptural pattern. Perhaps the new Secretary General of AOG would do well to read this second point! (2) Once you depart from experience which is rooted in Scripture to embrace spiritual phenomena of any sort, in all likelihood there will be further development in extreme manifestations. Witness the current phenomena: in some charismatic churches, roaring and even barking has begun. The roaring is explained as "The Lion of Judah." I do not know what the barking represents. I do know that if the spirit of prophets is subject to the prophet (I Cor. 14:32); then, surely the spirit of the roarer and barker is subject to them. Sometimes we need to call things by their real name: and I do not hesitate to say that barking and roaring is "weird." It either comes from a mistaken fleshly notion (the human flesh is capable of making a lot of commotion) or it is the devil roaring and his dogs barking. Let not the Pentecostal church get caught up in such mysticism totally devoid of any Scriptural root."

Here is a chapter from the famous book "Occult ABC" by Kurt Koch. It is significant that Koch felt he should include Kathryn Kuhlman in this book. This is the woman that Benny Hinn received his "anointing" from and whose grave he visits to receive more "anointing" on occasion. She is the same woman who was a mentor for John Arnott at the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship, where the Toronto "Blessing" subsequently began. Note the striking similarities between what is going on in the "counterfeit" revival movement today and Kuhlman's meetings. This is one of the bad seeds that started this whole mess to begin with. Would that more research were being done into the fantastic claims of "healings" today. Many of Benny Hinn's "miracles" have been debunked already. Yet adherants to this Third Wave movement continue to tell and retell completely unsubstantiated and subjective stories, because the "end justifies the means". We must continue to expose the false miracles, teaching and prophesy in this movement for what they are, while reaching out to the people who have been fooled by these Christian sorcerers with prayer and with arms of love. "When we recognize our own guilt, the desire to cast stones goes away. Nevertheless, we are not spared the necessary duty of acting as signposts to the Church of Christ, even when this means great heartache."

(63) The Alpha Course – Final Answer or Fatal Attraction? by G. Richard Fisher, PFO; Vol 18, No 4.
The idea of a fatal attraction has come to mean a relationship that was thought to be wonderful, finally turning out to destroy a person. The Alpha Course may very well fit that description as it claims to take people through Bible terrain but in reality turns them inward to their emotions and experiences. It locks them into a detour and cycle of fickle emotions, carnal feelings and self-focus and away from the true lover of their souls. It will be another fad that will leave people dazed, confused, and worse off in the long run. So-called Holy Ghost weekends cannot compare to a sane and balanced daily walk with Jesus Christ through the Scriptures.

"I was told that my Arminian leanings were alienating me from about 70% of the Vineyards. ... More particularly my open view of God was alienating me from many Vineyards," he wrote in his letter. Clark revealed his association with open theist Greg Boyd, stating that he had invited Boyd to speak with him at two of his conferences over the past few years. But, Clark maintains, it has only been recently that he read Boyd's volume on the subject, so "I guess I was a case of guilt by association." anointed by Rodney Howard-Browne

(4) The Toronto Blessing and the Laughing Revival by Gary Gilley, Think On These Things, October 1999 - Volume 5, Issue 10
Soon Howard-Browne began influencing others, but on a small scale. Then, while preaching at Carpenter’s Home Church in Lakeland, Florida, in 1993, laughter in the Spirit once again broke out bringing Howard-Browne out of obscurity. One of his disciples was Pastor Randy Clark from St. Louis, Missouri. It was Clark (who had already experienced strange phenomenons in his church) who preached the revival sermon in Toronto that ignited the whole movement. The Revival has since spread like wildfire, especially in Vineyard and Charismatic circles, and in recent years has penetrated all kinds of denominations.

An account of how Randy Clark received the blessing or anointing of the Spirit from Rodney Howard-Browne is found in the paper What in the World is Happening to us? This was written by Bill Jackson of the Vineyard movement to try to show that the TB is a good Biblical thing. Here is Bill Jackson's account of how the TB began: Randy Clark is the founding pastor of the Vineyard Christian fellowship in St. Louis. Missouri. After years of seeing little fruit and power in his ministry- he became desperately hungry for God. Hearing of unusual manifestations of God's presence through the ministry of South African evangelist Rodney Howard-Browne Randy attended one of Rodney's meetings in Tulsa Oklahoma. Randy was powerfully touched and, in going home, began to see a similar outbreak of the Spirit among his people.
