Youth
With A Mission Experiments With New, Unscriptural Missions Strategy
by Watchman's Trumpet - 2000, Foundation Magazine, Dennis W.Costella, May
- Jun 2000
"Several international missions organizations, including Youth With
a Mission (YWAM), are testing a new approach to missionary work in areas
where Christianity is unwelcome. A March 24, 2000, Charisma News
Service report said some missionaries are now making converts but are allowing
them to "hold on to many of their traditional religious beliefs and practices"
so as to refrain from offending others within their culture."
(2) Radical
Missionary Approach Produces 'Messianic Muslims' Retaining Islamic Identity
by Andy Butcher, Charisma News Service, March 24, 2000
YWAM has not only been involved in many unscriptural activities. "Spiritual
mapping", promotion of Third Wave materials like Rick Joyner's book THE
FINAL QUEST (since taken off their Canada site as of 8/02) George Otis'
exaggeration and fabrications in his TRANSFORMATIONS
video (also taken off their Canada site as of 8/02) as well as his book
STRONGHOLDS
OF THE 10/40 WINDOW (which YWAM publishes), as well as PRAYING
THROUGH THE 100 GATEWAY CITIES OF THE 10/40 WINDOW by C. Peter Wagner
on the subject of "spiritual warfare" prayer (also published by YWAM).
But some in YWAM have also adopted a new mission's strategy that should
cause churches everywhere to seriously consider disassociating themselves
with this once evangelical group. This new strategy goes directly against
the Great Commission which states not that we are to make "converts" but
to make "disciples" of all nations (peoples). "Messianic Muslims" who
continue to read the Koran, visit the mosque and say their daily prayers
but accept Christ as their Savior are the products of the strategy, which
is being tried in several countries, according to Youth With a Mission
(YWAM), one of the organizations involved. You can find the original
article written by the YWAM Muslim missionary here.
(3) The
"Spiritual Mapping" Of Youth With A Mission by GLR, 4/00
A page with various articles examining some of the false doctrines
that YWAM has incorporated into their program over the years including
Charles Finney's pragmatic views of revival, Moral Government Theology,
Abelard's Atonement, the spiritual mapping & warfare techniques of
George Otis & C. Peter Wagner, and other problems which have led to
the YWAM being blown about by every wind of doctrine. "There are
certain corner stones which have made the "casting about by every wind
of doctrine" and "spiritual abuse" possible in YWAM. It is important to
understand some of the things on this web page if you really want to understand
present, confusing trends and movements in YWAM and other organizations."
(4) Messianic Muslims? by Orell Steinkamp,
The Plumbline, Vol. 6, No. 2, March/April 2001
"Last year it was reported that several international mission organizations,
including Youth With A Mission (YWAM) are testing a new approach to missionary
work in areas where Christianity is unwelcome."
(5) Is That
Really You, God? Hearing the Voice of God - A Review by Loren Cunningham
with his sister, Janice Rogers, Chosen Books, 1984 - Evaluation,
quotes and comments by Rev. Greg Robertson, Jakarta, Indonesia.
"Although Robertson had decided that his YWAM experience was something
from the past which must be left at the foot of the cross, he soon found
that the same false doctrines and spiritual misgivings which had so
negatively affected his life through his YWAM Daze, had progressed
to new levels, moved further away from
Scripture and had become a poisonous leaven for other groups and
movements."
(6) Loren Cunningham, YWAM and False Prophecy
by B.B. in a letter dated June 4, 2001
"... Because the "prophecies" that had been given in England, the
U.S.A. etc. were so definite that the "Maori" was God's ship for YWAM,
when the ship was finally sent to the wrecking yard in Asia for scrap,
not only were the Christians involved severely hurt, but the non-believers
in N.Z. laughed those who had been deceived to scorn. The credibility
of the Christian church in general was hurt severely among the unbelievers
as well as many in the church."
(7) Joy
Dawson Of Youth With A Mission (YWAM)
Joins Forces With Benny Hinn by
Sandy Simpson, 1/28/02 "In Benny Hinn's Honolulu, HI crusade at the
Blaisdel Arena on 1/11/02 Joy Dawson of YWAM appeared on stage with Benny.
Prior and subsequent to this appearance she was also featured on his TV
programs. Onstage Joy Dawson was highly complimentary of Benny Hinn
and his ministries. They made plans to reach out to the youth of HI
together officially that night."

(10) YWAM - A "New
Evangelism" For The 21st Century by Mike Oppenheimer, Let Us Reason
Ministries, 4/13/02
"There has been a controversy brewing on a new type of evangelism
used in YWAM and a few other missionary organizations. It’s about doing
mission work in a completely new way unheard of before, an experimental
way, that is supposed to yield results where there were only a few results
before. This article is not written to just be controversial, but to look
at a very real issue that can change the church not just Muslims. It is
more serious than most will want to admit for true missionary work is at
stake. I have made the whole matter as simple as possible, so that even
a layman can understand the ramifications of what is now taking place."

Indigenous
People Issues - A Warning About The World Christian Gathering Of Indigenous
People by Sandy Simpson, Pacific Waves Newsletter, 5/02
"But I do not endorse movements that, for all their good intentions,
are a mixture of good, unbiblical and heretical theology. How can we effectively
bring the gospel if that gospel is tainted by the world, the flesh and
the devil. We as Christians must stand firm in the faith once for all delivered
to the saints. We must not get involved in ecumenical movements that look
like the world, act like the world, and instead of bringing the Word to
the world are bringing the world to the world." Go here

Review of "TAKING OUR CITIES FOR GOD" by John Dawson, YWAM
Publishing 1989 Reviewed by Steve Mitchell, Answers
For India, 11/02
Taking Our Cities For God, written by John Dawson is over
10 years old. Why would A.F.I. bother reviewing a book that some might
consider outdated and seldom read? The reason is because it is still heavily
recommended reading for YWAM youth and staff across the globe today. YWAM's
DTS (Discipleship Training Schools) feature this book (in some form) as
source material in some classes and the students are taught to implement
these prayer and spiritual warfare practices.
(13) YWAM:
The Facts About Their Headlong Dive Into Apostasy by Sandy Simpson,
12/7/02
YWAM has been slipping
into apostasy for years. I and many others have tried to help them
back to orthodoxy, written letters to their leaders, all without success.
It has been made plain to us and others that they have completely bought
into every aspect of the New Apostolic Reformation and are now very visible
and vocal proponents of the C. Peter Wagner "gospel".

(15) The
Dialectic & Praxis: Diaprax and the End of the Ages
by Dean Gotcher
The Hegelian Dialectic/Diaprax
consists of three steps called Thesis, Antithesis, and Synthesis.
This method is being employed everywhere in our modern society, including
the Church. It is especially evident in groups such as mega-churches,
the Third Wave, YWAM and other apostate groups.
(16) Why
I Am The Way I Am About YWAM by Steve Mitchell, Power To
Stand Ministries
I must stand by my current
convictions: YWAM is not a wise choice for anyone interested in safe spiritual
mission work at this time. See our other current as well as forthcoming
articles for info on some areas of real concern in YWAM. False teaching
has consequences both for the perpetrator and for the victim. Test all
things by God’s Word and reject the false. Until YWAM leaders like Lehmann,
Cunningham, Dawson, Greene and others make this effort we should abstain
from sending our young people or going ourselves.
(17) An
Open Letter To Calvary Chapel Pastors Of America Concerning YWAM
by Steve Mitchell, Power To Stand Ministries, 2/02
Dear reader, this is a copy of an open letter
sent to many Calvary Chapel pastors in the United States outlining some
existing concerns about affiliating with Youth With A Mission. I am pleased
to report that I got almost 30 responses from concerned Calvary Chapel
pastors/youth pastors. All received were favorable in that they agreed
with the concerns I raised. In addition, several even shared specific incidences
that confirmed these things. All were thankful that a stand was being taken
and felt that it was a good thing that they weren’t the only ones with
these concerns.

Fivefold
Ministry Makes A Comeback
by Christian Research Journal, Volume 22, Number 1 (1999)
The two cassette tapes are eerie. One speaker, Bill Hamon, urges
the congregation to invite “war angels” into the sanctuary and uses sound
effects — “Whish!” — as he suggests the angels are arriving. Another speaker,
Cindy Jacobs, foresees revival coming to the Latter-day Saints Temple in
Salt Lake City and to Freemasons within the Southern Baptist Convention.
She speaks of God giving instant sex-change operations to transvestites
on New Orleans’s debauched Bourbon Street. She notes that the anointing
of the Holy Spirit now resides in her left arm, having moved from her right
arm. I offer these quotes to you because YWAM is selling books by Cindy
Jacobs, as well as other false teachers and false prophets from the International
Coalition Of Apostles on their main YWAM.org site. They sell books
by these New Apostolic proponents and sympathizers, and a partial list
was as follows as of 2/04:
Rick Warren (Purpose
Driven Life, Purpose Driven Church)
Ted
Haggard (Dog Training, Fly Fishing, and Sharing Christ in the 21st
Century)
Bill Hybels (Courageous
Leadership, Becoming A Contagious Christian, Leadership By The Book)Cindy
Jacobs(Possessing the Gates of the Enemy, The Voice of God) C.
Peter Wagner (100 Gateway Cities, Acts of the Holy Spirit, Breaking
Strongholds in Your City, Churches That Pray, Confronting
The Powers, New Apostolic Churches, Prayer Shield, Warfare
Prayer, Your Spiritual Gifts)
Dutch
Sheets (Intercessory Prayer) Rich Marshall (God at Work,
foreword by Tommy Tenney) David Cannistraci (Apostles And The Emerging
Apostolic Movement) George Otis, Jr.
(God's Trademarks, Informed Intercession, Last of the Giants, Strongholds
of the 10/40 Window, Twilight Labyrinth)
Charles Kraft (Anthropology
for Christian Witness, Christianity with Power)
Winkie Pratney (Fire
On The Horizon) Steve Hawthorne

Our Cities for God) Joy Dawson (Forever Ruined for the Ordinary,
Influencing Children to Become World Changers, Intercession, Thrilling
And Fulfilling, Intimate Friendship With God, Some Of The Ways Of God In
Healing)
For the leadership of YWAM, including co-founders Loren
Cunningham and
Joy
Dawson (who have both appeared on false prophet Benny Hinn's TV program
and Dawson in his crusade in Honolulu promising cooperation from YWAM)
to continually attempt to hide the fact that YWAM is involved in promoting
Latter Rain doctrines, books and personalities in the New Apostolic Reformation
all over the world is highly disingenuous!
(20) Richard Twiss Connections
by Sandy Simpson, 10/1/04
Richard Twiss is spreading the doctrines of the New Apostolic Reformation
and is endorsed by them. He claims that the Great Spirit of the Indians
is the Holy Spirit of the Bible, and endorses ministries who make this
same claim. He endorses and promoted books by people like Daniel
Kikawa that present information as fact when it is proven myth. He
continues to teach that the Great Spirit is the Holy Spirit by wearing
the cultural items associated with the Great Spirit, even though it is
a historical fact that the Great Spirit is a pantheistic god that required
blood rituals and human sacrifice. Richard Twiss claims that what
he is doing is not syncretism, when it is the very definition of syncretism.

(25) Regarding The Accuracy Of Oral
Traditions - With Reference To Daniel Kikawa's Book "Perpetuated In
Righteousness" by Sandy Simpson, 5/10/05
The accuracy of oral tradition is, in a word, "inaccurate".
I dare say that if we were able to trace back most oral traditions today,
as God sees them from an eternal perspective, we would see the mutations,
changes and fabrications involved in modern mythology. We would also
see a lot of "fables".
(26) The Testimony Of Heneri Opukaha'ia -
regarding
the state of religion and society in Hawaii before the Gospel - A Rebuttal
To Daniel Kikawa's Book "Perpetuated In Righteousness" by Sandy
Simpson, 5/17/05
This article is a reminder of what Hawaii was like before the Gospel
was preached. This is the account of a very important eyewitness.
It is an unfortunate fact that often, by the third generation of Christians
in any given area of the world, important information has begun to be lost
and forgotten. This is clearly evident in the writings of people
like Daniel Kikawa. The stark facts, of Hawaiian culture and religion
before the Gospel was preached in Hawaii, are made evident by the testimony
of a man without whom the peoples of Hawaii would never have had the opportunity
to hear the Gospel message and would still be living in the sins of their
ancestors.

(28) Be
Wary Of YWAM - A Warning to Hawaii Churches Concerning Youth With A
Mission by Steve Mitchell, Power To Stand, 6/05
Make no mistake. YWAM as an organization has been and currently
is involved in promoting and endorsing Third Wave/New Apostolic Reformation
(NAR for short) principles, practices, and teachers. This is not to say
that every individual out of the 200,000 or so somehow involved in this
group holds uniformly to what the leadership promotes, BUT when YWAM leaders
officially cooperate and collaborate with dangerous teachers (including
endorsing and publishing their books), we need to see this massive movement
for what it is in light of it’s official views. What follows is a brief
look at some developments in the past few decades concerning YWAM and its
leaders.

Newest Heresy of the NAR: Orality by Discernment Research Group,

The latest fad is potentially the most grievous
heresy to arise in the recent history of the Church. It is a repudiation
of literacy -- the written Word. It is now widely being taught to missionaries,
particularly through mission groups closely associated with the New Apostolic
Reformation (NAR). - A global partnership involving Campus Crusade for
Christ, the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention,
Wycliffe International & The Seed Company, Trans World Radio and YWAM—using
chronological Bible storying among unreached people groups.
(31) An Endrun Around Rom. 1 And Acts 17 -
A
Gameplan of YWAM by Sandy Simpson, 3/4/06
Daniel Kikawa, formerly with YWAM and now with his own organization
called Aloha Ke Akua, and Danny Lehmann, Director of YWAM Honolulu have
repeatedly pulled Romans 1 and Acts 17 from their contexts in order to
promote IPM ideology. I have yet to hear them, or any other leader
in the IPM for that matter, teach these Scriptures in context. Yanking
Scriptures out of context is one of the first marks of false teaching.

(37) IPM False Teaching About The Names
Of God by Sandy Simpson, 6/24/06
Danny Lehmann, YWAM Director in Honolulu and pastor at Calvary Chapel
Komo Mai was on the Calvary Chapel KLHT radio station again on Friday,
June 23, 2006 with another argument to try to shore up the false doctrines
that he and others of the IPM, including Don Richardson, Richard Twiss,
Daniel Kikawa, have been teaching. Their claim is that God has many
names in many cultures and can be legitimately worshipped by those names.
Lehmann argues that the proof of this idea comes from the fact that in
the Bible God has many "names".
(38) Purpose Driven Hip-Hop?
from an email update from Youth Alive Victoria, commentary by Sandy Simpson,
4/20/07
I received this email update from Youth Alive Victoria. In
a previous article I showed how Youth
Alive promoted the Third Wave in concerts worldwide. I also showed
how they
promote the use of Alpha Course. Youth Alive continues down the
road to apostasy by promoting "Purpose Driven Hip-Hop". This shows
the influence of Rick Warren's books in their organization. IT also
shows they very much support YWAM
which is aa adherant and promoter of the New
Apostolic Reformation. It is my hope the parents will take this
as a warning and not send their kids to be infleunce by Youth Alive!
(39) Church
Shooter A Member Of Youth With A Mission by James Jacob Prasch,

Matthew Murray, the deranged shooter who murdered four and attempted
to murder hundreds of other Christians in his armed attacks on a mission’s
center in Arvada, Colorado and on an Evangelical church in Colorado Springs
had been until recently a member of the spiritually and doctrinally warped
'Youth With A Mission' (YWAM) organization founded by Loren Cunningham
and promoted by Danny Lehmann.
(40) A
Warning Concerning YWAM’s “The Friend’s Network”: “With Friends Like These…”
by Steve Mitchell, Power To Stand Ministries, 1/14/07
Several years ago YWAM proposed a new kind of pseudo-mission endeavor
in which YWAM missionaries would allegedly preach Muslims the “gospel”
and a supposed great harvest would result. The idea was that a Muslim who
was persuaded to believe the gospel would be encouraged to make a profession,
albeit privately to avoid persecution. This new “convert” was then informed
that they could continue regular mosque attendance, bowing in prayer to
Allah, and Quranic reading and still be considered born again. They would
then be referred to as “Messianic Muslims”. Make no mistake, they were
still Muslims but had claimed some level of “belief” in Jesus Christ. As
long as when they continued their “cultural” expressions of worship to
Allah but inside actually prayed to Jesus Christ, they were considered
saved.
