The February 2008 edition of Christianity Today ran a cover story about evangelicals looking to the ancient Roman Catholic Church in order to find beliefs and practices.1 What was shocking about the article was that both the author of the article and the senior managing editor of CT claim that this trip back to Rome is a good thing. Says Mark Galli the editor, “While the ancient church has captivated the evangelical imagination for some time, it hasn’t been until recently that it’s become an accepted fixture of the evangelical landscape. And this is for the good.”2 Chris Armstrong, the author of the article who promotes the trip back to the ancient church, claims
that because the movement is led by such persons as “Dallas Willard, Richard Foster, and living and practicing monks and nuns,” that therefore, “they are receiving good guidance on this road from wise teachers.” This he claims shows that, “Christ is guiding the process.”3

Representing the evangelical Christian position was Cecil Andrews, founder of Take Heed Ministries. Supporting the Roman Catholic position was Jesuit Priest Keith McMillan. Cecil Andrews presents the evangelical Christian position while Keith McMillan presents the Roman Catholic position.

Marian apparitions and their messages play an integral part of worship in Roman Catholicism. Consider just one of the ungodly messages from a Fatima apparition that clearly diverts people away from worship of the triune God: "God is giving two last remedies to the world, these are the Holy Rosary and the Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary...the two means to save the world are prayer and sacrifice....devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Most Holy Mother consists in considering her as the seat of mercy, of goodness of pardon and of the certain door by which we are to enter Heaven... plead for peace from the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for the Lord has confided the peace of the world to her."

Catholics often attempt to discredit the testimonies of former Catholics who come to saving faith by claiming "you must not have been properly catechized" or "clearly you were never much of a Catholic." Often the Lord brings such people very low before they have clarity or He uses another individual to speak biblical truth into their lives that reveals a disconnect. The false religious system of the end times that will worship a false Christ is described as a "mystery" in Revelation 17:5. It is called "Babylon the great" the mother of prostitutes who is drunk with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. There are many descriptions given by the apostle John that indict Roman Catholicism, such as being clothed in purple and scarlet and adorned with gold and jewels, holding a golden cup full of abominations and committing sexual immorality. However, the description that may be the most compelling is that she is a "mystery". As I researched the Catechism of the Catholic Church for the word "mystery," I discovered the word appears 235 times. This did not surprise me because I remember how priests would always respond to any question they could not answer with, "It's a mystery." Following are some of the teachings within Roman Catholicism that are called a mystery. Each one nullifies, opposes or contradicts the Word of God. Paragraph numbers are in parenthesis.

The pope said there is no such thing as an "absolute truth" if that means a truth can stand by itself "without any relationship." This postmodern pope is echoing the emerging church and contemplative spirituality - a theology that the devil is using to rebuild the tower of Babel under the papacy. The pope's remark is so deceptive because there is absolute truth and it is found in Christ and His Word. Jesus said, "I am the truth" and "thy Word is truth" (John 14:6; 17:17). The Lord Jesus came to testify to the truth and everyone who is of the truth listens to Him (John 18:37). Clearly, the pope is not abiding in the Word of Christ and he remains in bondage to religious deception (John 8:31-32).

To any saved Christian with an ounce of discernment and Holy Spirit illuminated scriptural insight, once the Vatican and the papacy abrogated the historicity of the Genesis creation narrative more than 15 years ago and began to cave in on the issue of Darwinism, it was only a matter of time before the Church of Rome compromised on moral issues such as abortion and homosexuality.

In  this  particular program, Brian Broderson  and  Don Stewart gave disturbing  counsel.  Both were in full agreement with each other as the audio and transcript and video show. Some good counsel was first given to direct an individual (and wife) to not force their teenage daughter to do something spiritually that she didn’t want to do. But then, bad “counsel” was given to the same concerned and confused parent, regarding Roman Catholic Confirmation not being harmful. Even though Broderson  clearly  clarified  that  such  a ceremony  would  include the participant (teenager) saying,  “Yes,  I want to  be  a Roman Catholic,” Broderson and Stewart were in agreement that it would not be harmful.

Response:  Not every word the apostles spoke was inspired of God. Catholics don’t even claim that for the popes, alleged successors of Peter. Moreover, without a written record, no one could be certain even 100 years later, let alone today, that orally transmitted teaching had been passed down accurately. Obviously, we must have an infallible written record, which is why the Holy Spirit inspired the apostles to write the New Testament. We are assured that all  Scripture  is inspired of God. No such assurance is given for  tradition . In fact, the opposite is implied.

A California Roman Catholic diocese that owns the property that once was the Crystal Cathedral has received a $20 million donation for its renovation work. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange announced that an anonymous donor gave $20 million to aid the estimated $113 million renovation of the former Crystal Cathedral. In a statement made by the donor and released by the Diocese of Orange, the person said, "I hope this gift will inspire other donors in our community to give as well. "I am blessed to offer my faithful and financial support to the diocese's efforts to restore and renovate the campus and make its vision for the Christ Cathedral a reality." For decades, the Orange County located Crystal Cathedral was the notable megachurch headed by the Rev. Robert Schuller and his family. However, financial scandals and in-fighting led to Crystal Cathedral Ministries filing for bankruptcy and eventually being compelled to sell their iconic property. In February 2012, the Catholic Diocese of Orange purchased the building and grounds, renaming the sanctuary Christ Cathedral.

We live in strange times. When I became a born-again believer nearly four decades ago following thirty years as a Roman Catholic, not one non-Catholic Christian chided me for leaving the Church of Rome. In those days it was fairly obvious to evangelicals that the teachings and practices of Roman Catholicism were at odds with the teachings of the Bible. Yes, there were a few things, at least superficially, that Catholics and Bible-believing Christians held in common. The virgin birth of Christ, which involved the conception of Jesus by the Holy Spirit, is one example. Yet, regarding Christ’s miraculous birth, the Catholic Church added to the virgin Mary the dogmas of her Immaculate Conception, i.e., her having been conceived without sin, and her perpetual virginity. Although those extra-biblical teachings are serious errors, they do not directly contradict the gospel that is essential for salvation.

Southern Baptist pastor Rick Warren will be a part of the ecumenical and interfaith gathering this September where Pope Francis himself is expected to appear. In the Catholic Herald piece we learn that the most important thing that can happen at the week long congress is conversion so that “families can become a force of change for good.” Obviously the conversion they’re referring to is placing their faith in Roman Catholicism. So it’s doubtful that the purveyor of pragmatism, Rick Warren, will share the true gospel of Jesus Christ during his speech, as that would certainly be viewed as divisive. But we shall see. The Catholic Herald’s report begins: More than 1.5 million people are expected for the Mass with Pope Francis in Philadelphia this September, said organisers of the next World Meeting of Families. A high-level delegation from Philadelphia, led by Archbishop Charles J Chaput, was in Rome as of Monday to meet Vatican officials, review some of the planning and promote the week-long congress.

On the feast of the Assumption of Mary, Pope Francis said that faith is the defining virture of her greatness and that the mysterious way she was taken into heaven is a foreshadowing of what awaits each of us. Dogmatically defined in 1950, the assumption of the Virgin Mary's body into heaven is celebrated Aug. 15 every year, and is one of the most important Marian feast days in the Catholic Church. Francis pointed to the famous canticle Mary uttered in response, called the "Magnificat," in which she praises God for the marvelous deeds he has done both in her own life and throughout history. In this prayer Mary expresses her joy, because she is fully aware of what all the great works in her life at that point mean, namely that through her the Lord will accomplish the salvation her people have long been waiting for, the Pope said.The prayer also shows us the full meaning of Mary's life, he added, explaining that "if the mercy of the Lord is the engine of her story (then) she who bore the Lord of life (could not be touched by) the corruption of the tomb."

On Wednesday, March 20, 2013, Pope Francis welcomed an ecumenical group of religious leaders who attended his inauguration. He said, “I greet and thank cordially all of you, dear friends belonging to other religious traditions; firstly the Muslims, who worship the one living and merciful God, and call upon Him in prayer. I really appreciate your presence, and in it I see a tangible sign of the wish to grow in reciprocal trust and in cooperation for the common good of humanity.”
So the Pope prays to the same god as do Muslims.

Pope Francis venerated the statue of the Immaculate Conception in Rome’s Piazza di Spagna, continuing the tradition set by his predecessors in the late 1900s. The event began with the reading from the book of Revelation, which describes “a woman, clothed with the sun, with the moon beneath her feet, and around her head a crown of twelve stars.” (Rev. 12:1). The Pope then recited a prayer to Our Lady, made on behalf on all those living in Rome. “Today, here in the heart of Rome, we hear the voice of our mother who calls everyone toward that Door, which represents Christ,” the prayer reads. “You say to all: 'Come, confident approach; revenue and receive the gift of Mercy; do not be afraid, do not be ashamed: Father is waiting for you with open arms to give you his forgiveness and welcome in her home.'” This prayer was followed by the chanting of the Litany to Mary.

Due to the fact that the main festivities will be held in the places that Christ lived and carried out his ministry, including many miracles, Francis said he decided to center his message for the day on the Gospel account of the wedding feast of Cana, where Christ performed his first miracle through the intervention of his mother. With Mary's attentiveness and personal involvement with the newlywed couple in mind, as well as her and docile attitude toward her son, the Pope asked what the scene can teach us about the World Day of the Sick.

Generic and Specific

In my article “Blasphemizing the Bible” (http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/blasphemizingthebible.html) I give a number of examples of how a lot of modern Bible translation societies are putting the names of “supreme beings” in the Bible in the place of God or YHWH. In this article I'm going to examine two of the excuses they make for making those substitutions in the Bible in many hundreds of different languages today. 

(1) They claim that God has many different names and therefore they think they are justified in putting the names of various gods of various cultures in Bibles, as long as they are considered “supreme beings”. 

(2) The second excuse they give is that the names of the “gods” they are placing in the Bible are generic terms for God, like the words “God”, “Theos”, “Dios” and “Elohim”. By generic I mean a word that can be used for any deity whether of the one true God or other false gods who claim to be God. 

I will go through both of these excuses and show that they are both unbiblical, therefore the Bibles they have translated with names of other gods in them, or names they claim are generic, prove that they have “blasphemized” those Bibles.
