(4) Luis Palau by Biblical Discernment Ministries, 1998
Like some other well known evangelists, pastors and teachers, Luis Palau has been slipping further and further into ecumenicalism -- unity for unity's sake.  How could this happen to a man whom God has used to preach the gospel to millions of people?  This article details that slide and is a vivid reminder that just because a Christian with the gift of evangelism is famous does not mean Christians should stand for unsound doctrine that is preached or practiced by that person.  It takes more to preach the gospel than to simply declare a formula on how to be saved.  It looks to us as though Palau is watering down the gospel message; making overtures to a number of apostate churches, sending people back to them after they allegedly make a decision to follow Christ; and joining organizations with doctrinal stands that are against Scripture.  Luis Palau is perhaps one of the greatest communicators of our age.  Although this article tends to nitpick at some issues that are secondary, in our opinion, it does highlight the fact that Christians need to be very discerning about advising non-believers to go to a crusade where new believers are sent back to apostate churches such as the Roman Catholic Church or Third Wave churches that have been spawned from such movements as the Toronto "Blessing" or Brownsville A/G to be discipled with unbiblical doctrines and practices.

This pronounced urgency for ecumenical evangelism is an attempt to provide Jesus a wonderful 2000th birthday present when He returns. The movement  has easily captured the fancy of many Christians.  However, the proposal for all Christians to forget their differences and unite for the purpose of evangelizing the world, completely ignores the fact that Roman Catholic, Orthodox and many Protestant churches preach a false gospel that denies the sufficiency of Jesus Christ and His finished work of redemption. A key to the success of this effort to unite has been a commitment to "tolerate one another's beliefs and just love Jesus." Overlooked in their zeal is the fact that if they all loved the same "Jesus" they would not tolerate a compromised gospel."

We can no longer support Promise Keepers because of many problems with doctrines that are taught, the background, teachings and guiding force behind the movement (Vineyard, Latter Rain, Joel's Army), their compromised doctrinal statement, and especially their ecumenical goals.  Here is an article that has many quotes from leaders of this organization providing ample proof that they are ecumenical and aberrant, if not heretical in doctrine.  This long article details a lot of what has been taught by Promise Keepers.

(9) Promise Keepers Changes Doctrinal Statement To Appease Catholics by David W. Cloud, 1997
"When Promise Keepers first published its brief statement of faith, it did not include the phrase "by faith alone." It was added because of the outcry of those who protested that the absence of this phrase leaves room for false gospels which mix grace and works, faith and sacraments. You see, false gospelers do not deny that salvation is by faith and by grace. What they deny is that it is by grace ALONE through faith ALONE without works and sacraments of any sort. Now we see that Promise Keepers has again modified its statement to remove "by faith alone" to please the Catholic leaders with whom they are fellowshipping. Promise Keepers vice president, Paul Edwards, tells us that PK's doctrinal statement is "dynamic" and "open to change." This is typical of those with an ecumenical agenda. They claim that sound doctrine is precious to them, but in practice they are incredibly flexible and nonchalant about the most foundational of doctrines."

(11) Who Is God by Luis Palau, 1997
Here is a "Luis Palau Responds" article that seems odd to us.  See if you agree with this sentence taken from the article: "The bottom line is you can be any religion you want to be, as long as what you believe about God corresponds to reality."  Is this really true?  How can a person find Jesus Christ as a Buddhist, as Palau indicates?  How can a person find salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone in the Roman Catholic church?  How can a person be of ANY religion other than true Christianity, even Judaism, and not acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Messiah?  How does Luis Palau think God views worshipping Him while continuing to worship other gods?  No other "religions" own God at all.  No religion does.  But only Judaism and Christianity worship YHWH.  Other religions worship demons.  God has revealed Himself to this age through His Only Son, Jesus Christ who is made evident through the body of Christ, the Christian church.  You cannot exclude the body of Christ or the Scriptures from the process of coming to the full knowledge of God.  It is impossible.  These statements by Luis Palau indicate just how far he has slid into ecumencalism and interfaith compromise. (12) Pacific Revival Center - Wolves Among The Flock by Deception In The Church, 1998
"There is a church that is trying desperately to ingratiate itself with the rest of the body of Christ on Guam.  This article is a warning that they are hiding behind the fact that they "went out from us" long ago (1 Jn. 2:19).  The church is affiliated with the UPCI (United Pentecostal Church International).  It has recently changed its name to Pacific Revival Center.  They have managed to get their church prominently displayed in the Pacific Daily News in the Lifestyle section, have advertised "miracle" and "revival" meetings at which unseemly pleas for money were made, and have started a semi-regular "Worship & Praise" event that they are inviting all churches on Guam to participate in."

(17) Pope John Paul II Receives The Mark of "Aarti", A Prayer To The Hindu Goddess Durga
This is a photo of the pope receiving the mark of a prayer "aarti" to the Hindu female goddess Durga by a professing Christian Hindu woman. By the time this photo was taken, however, the pope had already been involved in a number of pagan rituals on his trip to India in 1986, including taking the mark of Shiva.  Here is the documented quote: "Still at Madras on February 5, 1986, 'A sugarcane, fashioned into the form of a cross, signifying a Hindu offering to a carnal god, was brought into the presence of the Pope. A little later, during the offertory procession, a coconut was carried to the altar, a typical Hindu offering, which they offer to their idols. Finally, a man placed sacred ashes on his forehead. IT WAS NOT A MATTER OF TILAC BUT OF SACRED ASHES OR VIBHUTI. (*165) *164 ‘Msgr.’ Lefebvre, op. cit. p.177. *165 La Croix of February 6, and 'I' Express' of February 7/13, 1986, with photo."  The Catholic objections to this photo, and their deceptive tactics to try to hide what the pope did on the web, have unearthed even further evidence of the interfaith dabbling with demons by the papacy.

(1) stay out of this organization (2) do not submit your information to this database (3)  remain in your local church in the area the Lord has called you to (4) continue to do the work of preaching the gospel and taking care of the less fortunate without the assistance and materials of programs like these (5) and avoid any association with these people or any events they promote.

Both of these, of course, are Roman Catholics who preached a false sacramental gospel of faith-works."

In his ecumenical outreach, Southern Baptist Pastor Rick Warren has associated with the apostate Roman Catholic Church, the United Nations, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Tony Blair Faith Foundation. These last two organizations have as primary goals setting up a global government and bringing all religions of the world together, respectively. Conclusion: If Muslims were having dreams about Jesus, which resulted in opening their hearts to the gospel, I’d say, “Praise the Lord”, because I believe the Holy Spirit can use natural dreams to convict people of their need for salvation and direct them to the gospel if He so chooses. However, the reports I’m hearing and reading claim that Jesus Himself, in the person of Isa, is appearing to Muslims in dreams. I must reject the accuracy of those claims for all the reasons outlined above, and conclude that such dreams and visions lack biblical authority and must therefore be viewed as extra-biblical experiences generated from sources other than the Holy Spirit. I must also continue to pray that the gospel of Jesus Christ, not dreams and visions of Isa, will permeate Muslim communities throughout the world for the glory of our Lord and the salvation of many precious souls.

Mike Gendron of Prclaiming The Gospel comments: Biblical unity is a sovereign work of the Holy Spirit, not man. This unity occurs with the Holy Spirit baptizes believers, who share a common faith in the Gospel, into the Body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13; John 1:12-13). My Goal: The goal of this paper is to evaluate the reported phenomenon of Jesus (Isa) appearing to some Muslims in dreams and visions, and to discern if such reports fit the pattern of Scripture as determined through conservative grammatical/historical principles of interpretation (hermeneutics). My Concerns: I first became aware of the Muslin dreams phenomenon through a Christian brother who spoke with great excitement about a special moving of the Lord within Muslim communities. I wanted to share his excitement because I knew something of the difficulties of Muslim evangelism, and the great joy missionaries experience over even one Muslim coming to faith in Christ. However, over the course of our conversations my questions and concerns started to mount. In short, I questioned if it was really Jesus appearing to these people, and if so, why? What special circumstances at this point in redemptive history would necessitate Him personally intervening, when He said it would be the Holy Spirit’s role to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment through the preaching of the gospel by human preachers (John 16:8; Rom. 10:14-15; 1 Cor. 1:21)? I had no desire to resist or even question what God might be doing, but I feared these dreams of Isa might be little more than extra-biblical psychological or spiritual encounters that could supplant God’s Word and potentially lead their participants away from biblical authority rather than into it. And I was greatly concerned to hear the supposedly biblical rationale some of my fellow conservative Bible teachers were offering in defense of this movement. Some former defenders of the centrality and sufficiency of God’s Word in evangelism seemed suddenly to be sacrificing that doctrine on the altar of subjective mystical encounters. I needed to understand why, and to evaluate their rationale by God’s Word. I also needed to examine Isa’s communication to determine if it was consistent with Christ’s communication while He was on earth.  Read Part 1 & Part 2.

Unbelievable and largely unseen ecumenical coalitions and ad hoc alliances are forming. These alliances are being forged by a small cadre of seeker-driven mega church celebrity pastors/authors. These vision-casting celebrities are in effect acting as power brokers in forming ecumenical coalitions. As with all coalitions these players are attempting to gain something for themselves and their “ministries” and the expanding of their personal reputations. They are willing to exchange their platforms and pulpits with other celebrities of like class and clout. These platform exchanges often cross boundaries into false and even heretical territory. Consequently, these celebrities become an endorsement of false teaching to the masses of low information evangelicals who are fans of these various Christian celebrities. The opportunity for these maneuvers is that classical evangelicalism as a theologically descriptive word is becoming near meaningless. Gregory Thornbury, now president of Kings College states: “the evangelicalism I signed up for is gone forever....In fact many leading theologians today see evangelicalism as a relic of a by gone era.” (Thornbury, Recovering Classic Evangelicalism, Crossway, 2013, pp. 223)   The vacuum created by the disappearance of classical evangelicalism, unfortunately has been filled by TV ministries, bookstores, stadiums rallies, mega churches and extended mega church campuses and their media promotions.

Warren joined leaders from 23 countries and 14 religions invited by Pope Francis on at the kickoff Monday to The Complementarity of Man and Woman: An International Colloquium. “It’s great to be with leaders from different streams of Christianity from all over the world,” Warren said from the Vatican on Monday.  “Although we have some differences, we all love Jesus Christ and we all want marriages and families to be healthy and strong.” Upon meeting Pope Francis, Warren said: “Up close, you can feel the humility and compassion that others see from afar.”

It looked like a chilling scene from a Last Days, anti-Christ-takes-over-the-world disaster movie. Hundreds of Muslims take over America’s most notable church, prostrate on their prayer rugs as their unified chant echoes out in full volume: “There is only one god, he begets not and I bear witness that Muhammad is His only servant and Apostle." Only this was not a movie. This was the scene, last Friday, for the first time in history, at the iconic National Cathedral in Washington, where orthodox Muslim clerics were invited to lead an Islamic prayer service. A congregation of hundreds were lead by an Imam in declaring that “god has no son, that Jesus Christ cannot be his son, and that there is no god like Allah.” Only a single middle-age woman jumped up in the middle of the service and shouted, “America was founded on Christian principles. .?.?. Leave our church alone!” She was escorted quickly out of the church by security guards.

Warren, whose Purpose Driven Life and Purpose Driven Church books have sold millions of copies around the world, recorded a video interview for the Catholic News Service in which he said: "We have far more in common than what divides us." He continued: "When you talk about Pentecostals, charismatics, evangelicals, fundamentalists, Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterians ... Well, they would all say we believe in the trinity, we believe in the Bible, we believe in the resurrection, we believe salvation is through Jesus Christ. These are the big issues.  (ACT Commentary: I'm sorry to say this but Warren has proven himself, yet again, to be one of the biggest ignoramuses in Christianity.  Trinity? They have basically added Mary to the Godhead.  The Bible? They believe that the Scriptures and Tradition are equal in authority.  Salvation? They do not believe that salvation is by grace alone, and the pope has indicated that all major religions worship the same God.  How then is Catholicism ANYTHING like Biblical Christianity?)

If you want as many people to attend your church as possible, why limit yourself to just Christians?  All over America, “radically inclusive” churches that embrace all religions and all lifestyles are starting to pop up.  Church services that incorporate elements of Hinduism, Islam, native American religions and even Wicca are becoming increasingly common.  And even if you don’t believe anything at all, that is okay with these churches too.  In fact, as you will see below, one Presbyterian minister in Oregon is even inviting people to “bring their own god” to church.  But if these churches don’t really stand for anything at all, what is their purpose?  And what does the popularity of these churches say about the future of religion in America?

In the Catholic Herald piece we learn that the most important thing that can happen at the week long congress is conversion so that “families can become a force of change for good.” Obviously the conversion they’re referring to is placing their faith in Roman Catholicism. So it’s doubtful that the purveyor of pragmatism, Rick Warren, will share the true gospel of Jesus Christ during his speech, as that would certainly be viewed as divisive. But we shall see. The Catholic Herald’s report begins: More than 1.5 million people are expected for the Mass with Pope Francis in Philadelphia this September, said organisers of the next World Meeting of Families. A high-level delegation from Philadelphia, led by Archbishop Charles J Chaput, was in Rome as of Monday to meet Vatican officials, review some of the planning and promote the week-long congress.

Thousands are expected to gather in St Peter's Square for the event, which will include prayer for persecuted Christians. Darlene Zschech, who has written many popular worship songs including "My Jesus, My Saviour (Shout To The Lord)", posted on her Facebook page that she was "honoured" to be asked to sing at the Vatican. "This is a celebration of unity and peace in the Renewal of the Holy Spirit. Amazing days for the Body of Christ", she wrote.

Numerous attempts have been made to blend Christianity with other religions on a world-wide scale. You can read about them in Carl Teichrib’s article “Unveiling the Global Interfaith Agenda.” There are also other attempts to merge Christianity with different religions. For example, Chrislam tries to combine Christianity with Islam. There are people who call themselves Christian witches (i.e., combining Christianity with Wicca). There are attempts to mix Christianity with Hinduism, and with Buddhism, and with Shamanism. (A shaman is a Native American medicine man.) Some people claim to be Christian witch doctors or Christian sorcerers. You can even buy a book about Christian Voodoo. Nominal Christians are people who are Christians in name only. They call themselves Christians, but they really aren’t. They don’t have a relationship with Jesus Christ, they ignore or deny foundational Christian doctrines, and they don’t try to live the way God has instructed us as described in the Bible. Such people can fit in with other religions. However, born-again Christians aren’t able to do that because they have God’s Spirit living inside them Who convicts them of sin and enables them to trust and obey the Lord. And because God is living inside them, He gives them the grace and strength to abide in Him. Simply put, biblical Christianity cannot mix with other religions.

The Parliament of the World’s Religions has an agenda and they are now very open about it. It is now an outright attack on the Christian church and the Word of God. They have decided they cannot have unity at all cost so they are trying something else: changing the doctrine of the simple Gospel of Jesus and Who He is. I was handed a booklet titled Global Ethic: A Call to our Guiding Institutions that stated: “The Parliament of the world’s religion seeks to promote interreligious harmony, rather than unity.” (p.1) They are not afraid to say that “an orthodox Bible believing Christian does not fit in our world nor will they be tolerated.” It was in our face. This Parliament is a sort of coming out of the closet for them, as was the Parliament’s in the past such as the one in 2009.

(313) Growing Number of Pastors Believe Christianity and Islam Are Similar at Understand The Times, 10/28/15
Protestant pastors are increasingly polarized about Islam, as a growing share label the Muslim faith violent while a sharply rising minority calls it spiritually good. Although a majority considers Islam dangerous, a small but increasing segment believes Islam is similar to Christianity, according to a new survey by Nashville-based LifeWay Research. Two-thirds of Protestant pastors agree Christianity and Islam should seek to coexist in America. Seventeen percent of pastors characterize Islam as similar to Christianity, nearly double the 9 percent from five years earlier. Although views shifted in both directions, positive opinions rose more significantly. The American public, meanwhile, is twice as likely as pastors to see common ground between Islam and Christianity. In a parallel survey of 1,000 Americans, more than a third say the two faiths are similar. Compared to five years ago, pastors are much more likely to describe Islam in favorable terms. Fifty percent say Islam promotes charity, up from 33 percent. Significant numbers also describe Islam as spiritually good (32 percent, up from 19 percent), tolerant (24 percent, up from 16 percent) and open (22 percent, up from 12 percent.)

The November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris has left the world reeling. Once again, religion is at the crux of a tragedy that has threatened to tear the global community apart. But in Bethesda, Maryland, Muslim, Jewish and Christian leaders stood together over the weekend to share a message of solidarity. Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church hosted an interfaith service on Sunday joined by members of the Bethesda Jewish Congregation and the Islamic Community Center of Potomac Dr. Tarek Elgawhary of the ICCP, Rabbi Schnitzer of BJC and Pastor David Gray of BHPC lead the congregation through a conversation entitled, “The Pitfalls and Promise of Fear in Our Traditions and World.” "Today we lift up the ashes of our loss," said Schnitzer during the service. "The lives that continue, haunted forever by the pain of absence, we lift up the ashes of our remorse. For the charred visions of peace and the dry taste of fear, we lift up the ashes of our grief."  The service included music and readings from Christian, Jewish and Islamic traditions, followed by a shared meal for all those in attendance. Breaking bread together "further created a sense of community among people who experience the sacred in different ways but also who share much in common," Gray told The Huffington Post. With Sunday's service, the religious leaders joined countless others around the globe who are calling for peace in the midst of such unrest.

(317) Pope in Africa: Christians and Muslims Are ‘Brothers and Sisters’ at Understand The Times, 12/3/15
Pope Francis called for an end to interreligious violence as he visited a mosque in a Muslim neighborhood of the Central African Republic (CAR) capital, where thousands of beleaguered Muslims have been trapped by Christian militias. The pontiff concluded his three-nation Africa visit with a two-day trip to CAR, which has been beset by fighting between mainly Christian anti-Balaka and largely Muslim Seleka militias, Reuters reported. On Monday, Francis visited the Koudoukou central mosque in a Muslim enclave of Bangui, known as PK5, where at least 100 people have been killed in sectarian violence since September 25, according to Human Rights Watch. Despite security concerns surrounding the CAR leg of his trip, Francis, 78, traveled through the neighborhood in an open-air vehicle and was welcomed by local imam Tidiani Moussa Naibi, who thanked the pope for his visit and said it was “a symbol which we all understand.”

The Pope’s first-ever video message on his monthly prayer intentions was released Tuesday, Watch Video on You Tube [see below] highlighting the importance of interreligious dialogue and the beliefs different faith traditions hold in common, such as the figure of God and love. “Many think differently, feel differently, seeking God or meeting God in different ways. In this crowd, in this range of religions, there is only one certainty that we have for all: we are all children of God,” Pope Francis said in his message, released Jan. 6, the feast of the Epiphany. At the beginning of the video, a minute-and-a-half long, the Pope cites the fact that the majority of the earth’s inhabitants profess some sort of religious belief. This, he said, “should lead to a dialogue among religions. We should not stop praying for it and collaborating with those who think differently.” The video goes on to feature representatives of Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Judaism, who proclaim their respective beliefs in God, Jesus Christ, Allah and Buddha.

Pope Francis and the head of the Russian Orthodox Church will meet in Cuba next week in what could be a historic step towards healing the 1,000-year-old rift between the Western and Eastern branches of Christianity. The Vatican and the Moscow Patriarchate announced on Friday that Francis will stop in Cuba on Feb. 12 his way to Mexico to hold talks with Patriarch Kirill, the first in history between a Roman Catholic pope and a Russian Orthodox patriarch. The Vatican said the leaders would hold several hours of private talks at Havana airport, deliver public speeches and sign a joint statement. Such a meeting eluded Francis' two immediate predecessors, Benedict and John Paul, who both tried but failed to reach agreement with Kirill and previous patriarchs to hold talks on the prospects for eventual Christian unity.

Generic and Specific

In my article “Blasphemizing the Bible” (http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/blasphemizingthebible.html) I give a number of examples of how a lot of modern Bible translation societies are putting the names of “supreme beings” in the Bible in the place of God or YHWH. In this article I'm going to examine two of the excuses they make for making those substitutions in the Bible in many hundreds of different languages today. 

(1) They claim that God has many different names and therefore they think they are justified in putting the names of various gods of various cultures in Bibles, as long as they are considered “supreme beings”. 

(2) The second excuse they give is that the names of the “gods” they are placing in the Bible are generic terms for God, like the words “God”, “Theos”, “Dios” and “Elohim”. By generic I mean a word that can be used for any deity whether of the one true God or other false gods who claim to be God. 

I will go through both of these excuses and show that they are both unbiblical, therefore the Bibles they have translated with names of other gods in them, or names they claim are generic, prove that they have “blasphemized” those Bibles.
