Great Discernment Tools!

From Church To Emerging Church DVD Series
by Sandy Simpson

The issue of the Emerging Church and it's introduction into many churches and mission organizations has reached a critical point.  Many do not undersand what is being leavened into churches by the EC leadership.  Many would be shocked to know their belief systems involve Universalism, New Age, defense of postmodernism, Interfaithism, and many other false doctrines.  In order to reach out to this generation the EC leadership is proposing a whole new "map" to deal with what they perceive is a lack of understanding on the part of the churches on how to communicate.  EC proponants believe the "scripture" for today is evolving and must change in order to reach postmoderns.

Landmark Book!

Does having eternity in your heart mean that you know God and are His child? Could Gentile cultures understand the Gospel from the stars? Did God create man’s cultures? Has God always been in the process of redeeming cultures from the time of Babel by placing in them a true revelation of Himself? Is there the worship of YHWH in all cultures and religions through the names of “supreme beings”?  Have all cultures always had a way to make things right between them and God? These questions and many more are answered in this book that addresses the false teachings of The New Apostolic Reformation regarding missiological methods as being carried out by many agencies including the World Christian Gathering on Indigenous People, YWAM, and many Bible societies.

Great Study!

Through the years I have been presented with many opportunities to forgive. Sometimes the situation was so severe that it took me some time to forgive and start the process of healing for myself, and eventually for others. I learned that a Christian needs to forgive other people even if they have not repented of their sins. That can be really hard if we let it be hard. But if we give our burdens over to the Lord, He will carry them and that frees us up to treat other people with love, compassion, and be in the right frame of mind and heart to set them up for reconciliation with Jesus Christ. That does not mean we tolerate their sin. We simply forgive them for what they have done to us, whether perceived or real, and move on to looking for ways to redeem them. We can then present to them the “truth in love” even when we have to rebuke them.

Go On To Maturity!

was written to help believers to realize the absolute necessity of growing to maturity in Christ. Many churches are urging Christians to push aside discernment in favor of experience. It is our hope that this book will inspire many believers to fight the good fight, finish the race, and keep the faith (2 Tim. 4:7).

The newest deceptions in the Third Wave.

(1) Everybody Walks Away With Gold! by Deception In The Church, 3/99
Brownsville and Toronto have recently received a much needed shot in the arm to revive their ailing "revivals", but this time it is laced with gold!  "A "holy woman" from Brazil that shakes gold dust from her hair and has oil appear on her skin?  Where is this woman from?  Is she a Catholic or Protestant?  I guess it doesn't matter anymore, folks.  If she can exhibit this kind of magic, then she must be truly "anointed"!  Dreams of Jesus giving flowers and out of body experiences?  Could there be any clearer evidence that the New Age has completely taken over the Third Wave "River"?  These following stories are not for the faint of heart, and not for baby Christians.  Always remember when reading or viewing occult material that there is a real spiritual deception at work and you can be deceived.  These "miracles" are nothing more than demonic manifestations that have nothing whatsoever to do with true biblical manifestations of the gifts of the Spirit." Let's expose this ploy of the enemy for what it is.  With all the new talk in "The River" about "cross-pollination" between movements such as Toronto, Brownsville and Word Faith, these gold "miracles" are nothing more than a plot by the enemy to try to cement the "health and wealth" gospel people with the "transferable manifestation" Third Wavers.  What better way to bring these people together (as if they hadn't been from the beginning!) than to have people get their dental work changed into legal tender?

(2) Days Of Deception by The Contenders, 3/99
"God has decided to shower His people with gold in the last year of the millennium. Read about how His people are being sprinkled with gold dust and blessed with gold fillings. This only shows that people never learn from history and how willing people are to blindly accept anything that is passed off as being from God. It's little wonder Christians are thought of as being gullible by the non Christian world - a great number are!"

(3) "Cross-Pollination" - A New Term Coined By The Third Wave
"It seems that the Third Wave leaders spend a lot of time trying to coin new phrases.  C. Peter Wagner is famous for this and recent indicated that instead of attempting to coin the term "post-denominationlism" he had decided to call his "Third Wave" movement (another term he coined) the "New Apostolic Reformation".  Since apparently everything always has to have that tantalizing "new" flavor to it for the false doctrines The Third Wave espouses to be palatable to the general public, especially wayward Christians, another "new term" has just been coined."

(4) Rod Parsley - Preacher/Entertainer by Joseph Chambers, Paw Creek Ministries,"End Times And Victorious Living" Volume 12, No. 6
This article was taken from the latest issue of "End Times And Victorious Living" Volume 12, No. 6.  It details a few of the false teachings of Rod Parsley, and ever-present televangelist on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.  We have been watching this man for a long time and, apart from his stated "prosperity gospel" position, he has departed even further from the Scriptures recently into some very blasphemous territory.  We urge anyone who watches TBN (we do not endorse watching TBN at all) to beware of this man and his teachings and false anointing.

(5) Gold Dust & Gold Teeth by CROSS+WORD, 1999
"I can put off this article no longer. Despite my reluctance to deal with yet another loony facet of the Toronto fringe of the Church, there are too many  confused and bewildered people to ignore. I hope to be able to inject a little bit of sense into a senseless debate, and perhaps to provoke some Bible study and heart-searching on the part of those involved."

(6) Gold Fever Strikes Christian Extremists by Inner-City Christian Discernment Ministry, 1999
"... Today’s Charismatic extremists wear the garb of the Pharisees when they too require more from the Lord than what He has already provided, His Word. The Bible is not sufficient for the extremists, they seek after, and upon finding, flock to the latest sign & wonder in manifestation."

(7) Paul Cain/Rick Joyner - Preparing For The New World Order by Paw Creek Ministries, 1999
"Key Charismatics, such as Rick Joyner, Paul Cain, and others are helping to prepare for the New World Order."

(8) Gold From Where?
According to this testimony, the gold fillings (supposedly a miracle from God) are apparently a fading miracle.  People who have allegedly had their fillings changed to gold are now seeing them fade back to their original condition over time.  This was a lying wonder from the beginning and you would think this latest evidence would wake people up.  I suspect most in the "River" will ignore this fact and miss yet another opportunity to discern the truth.

(9) Dental Miracle Reports Draw Criticism by Christianity Today, 1999
"Is God miraculously transforming dental amalgam fillings into gold? John Arnott, senior pastor at the renowned Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship,  told CT  that "God is up to something new ... Arnott, whose first exposure to gold teeth miracles occurred at South African revivals earlier this year, contends this is another case of "God offending the mind to reveal the heart."  Apparently Arnott never changes his heretical tune regardless of rebuke.

(10) Pat Robertson And Diamonds by Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, 1997
"Robertson's company, African Development Co., based in the Zairian capital of Kinshasa, sought to dredge diamonds from a remote jungle riverbed. Robertson is the president and sole shareholder of the company." All this while raising money for aid to Zaire and using the relief planes to carry out diamonds!

(11) Marian Apparitions & Gold Miracles by Cross + Word, 1999
To show the Marion connection in the newest deceptions in the Tonront/Brownsville "river" read this article.  "Visions of 'mary' and 'jesus' have been appearing to Roman Catholics around the world. Often these visions are accompanied by prophecies about the Last Days, urging all men and women to love the Mother of God and submit themselves to her. The visions at Conyers, Georgia, USA have taken the same course as the ones at Fatima, Garabandal, Medjugorje and other places. They appear at regular intervals and various supernatural signs are manifested, including signs in the sun. Amongst the signs at Conyers is that of gold dust and rosaries turning to gold."

(12) There's Gold In Them Thar Teeth by Mike Oppenheimer, 1999
"Acts records several miracles in the early Church and none of them are of dentistry. Not that this would eliminate this from occurring. But imagine people who had no leg and saying Jesus healed them by giving them a wooden leg, or would a person with a blind eye get a glass eye. When He heals the deaf, would he give them a hearing-aid. When God heals, really heals, it is an organic miracle, we get real parts not synthetic man made ones, at least according to the Bible. "

(13) Doctrines Of Demons by Cross + Word, 1999
"It seemed like things I have been talking about, writing about and saying for YEARS all came together in my mind and went BANG! And it all made sense. Horrible, terrible sense. I feel I need to write and warn you about what is being planned. God does not allow his people to walk blind and ignorant into danger. We cannot prevent snares being laid, but God shows us where they are, and then only the foolish go ahead and walk right into them unheeding."

(15) Gold In Their Pockets
Check out this page.  You will see that not only is gold falling down from above but "god" is now putting money in people's pockets.  Sort of comes in handy when you forgot to bring your offering!  I have to wonder if the money fades like the gold teeth.  Hmmmm? What's next?  Stigmata for for one and all?  A mark for everyone?  If they will accept gold from their "god" I suspect they will accept anything.  Never mind about those passages of selling all that you have and giving it to the poor, or on the lighter side, giving the widow's mite.  All is forgotten in this new post-Christian Word-Faith era.  Christ might as well have said: "Render unto me your seed faith, and I will render your pockets full."  I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot of exegesis about the coin from the fish's mouth on this.  I have this feeling, though, that if Uncle Sam collects some taxes from these people and the money disappears he will not be too happy about it.  Could this world get any weirder?  And the answer is ... oh, boy ... yes!

(16) "Stigmata" In A Kenneth Copeland Meeting
Is "stigmata" now being endorsed by Kenneth Copeland?

(17) Benny Hinn And His "Fire Anointing" by Cross + Word, 1999
"Here is the proof that Benny Hinn cursed men and women at the September crusade in Denver. Using sound clips, I demonstrate the weird, bizarre and spine-chilling anointing of Benny Hinn - hear him growl and shout "fire" - and listen to some other astounding extracts."

(18) Is Benny Hinn’s “Fire” Anointing Really Just The Emperor’s New Clothes?by M. Kurt Goedelman, 1999
"Faith healer Benny Hinn is a man with an “anointing” for all seasons. Like Baskin-Robbins has flavors of ice cream, Hinn has anointings. There’s one for almost everyone’s taste."

(19) The Bible Code: Prophetic Insight Or Fertile Imagination? by G. Richard Fisher, 1999
Is "The Omega Code" movie based on false information using occult techniques?  Due to this new TBN movie that is being highly publicized by that network with tickets for sale in many Christian bookstores, we deemed it necessary to debunk this occultic way of using the Scriptures. "One must ask: What is the difference between this approach and the Ouija board? This is, in fact, a technological Ouija board. Rather than let our fingers do the walking, we let the computer do it for us. We scan for letters and words to tell us the future and to guide us into that future. Apparently, this is a frightening new form of occultic technology."  You might also want to read another article on this subject called "Bible Codes Or Matrix Of Deception" by John Winston Moore, SCP Newsletter, Autumn 1997 & Winter 1998.  Read Part 1 then Part 2. Catch a review of The Omega Code that calls it "No Stars and Thumbs Down".

(21) Salvation Sold For A Donation To TBN by Sandy Simpson, 1999
"The Balaam Network (TBN) has really been raking in the cash lately.  With The Omega Code movie in the top ten of money making movies (thanks to discerning Christians everywhere) and their regular Praise-A-Thon, they are rolling in dough.  So much so that they can now afford to beam utter heresy, like what you are about to read, to all of China.  I have been watching their fund raising antics the last three nights.  I never thought they could top John Avanzini's "Jesus and the disciples were rich", "one hundred fold return" and "the widow's mite" (she "wonted" something) ploys, but R.W. Shambach has just hit a new low.  This e-mail confirmed what viewers heard Shambach say the other night raising funds for TBN.  He has been on solidly for the last three days."

(22) Peter Wagner And His Apostolic Conferences by The Berean, 1999
"According to Peter Wagner and thes prophets, God is establishing a new governmental structure for the end-times.The current structure is obsolete. We must all come under their authority.  Are they your Apostles as Apostle Paul was to the NT Church?"

(23) Heresy .. The Result Of The Toronto "Blessing" Revival In Britain? by Sandy Simpson, 1999
The Belfast Berean News reported on 12/27/99 the following story.

(24) "News From The Front" Newsletter by Cecil Andrews, Take Heed Ministries, 12/99
This newsletter details what recently has been happening in Belfast with visits from Kenneth & Gloria Copeland as well as  Jack Deere and others.  Cecil Andrews gives a firsthand account of their "ministries" there.

This article is called "Tall Tales of Dr. Divine…The Holy Ghost Dentist!"  It details more of the demonic nature of the "gold" phenomenon in the Third Wave.

(26) The Prayer Circle: What Is Its Unbiblical Origin? by Ed Tarkowski, 1999
Tracing the occultic origins of "prayer circles" that have now invaded the church.

(27) Watch This Story For Updates!  Jesus Christ Slated To Star With Benny Hinn ... IN PERSON! by Sandy Simpson, 4/3/00
"I received these e-mails confirming that Benny Hinn has announced that Jesus Christ will appear bodily in Hinn's crusades.  This was "prophesied" by Ruth Heflin, now famous for serving up gold teeth and gold dust all over Christendumb (and I am not misspelling that word!)."

(28) A Prophet Has Spoken ... Jesus To Appear In Many Places by Mike Oppenheimer, Let Us Reason, 4/7/00
"Jesus does not appear to individuals or in churches. He is sitting at the right hand of the Father waiting for the time He is to come and collect the church together in the rapture. Again there are no separate appearances except the false ones that Jesus already warned us about.  "Then if anyone says to YOU, look here is the Christ! or 'There! Do not believe them." From Jesus ' own words Mt.24:25 "SEE, I HAVE TOLD YOU BEFOREHAND."

(29) Celebrate Jesus 2000? by Sandy Simpson, 4/17/2000
"Hot on the heels of the Benny Hinn/Ruth Heflin prophesy that Jesus will appear bodily in Hinn's crusades and other Third Wave meetings comes the following information ... For those of you who hang on every word and action of your "anointed" Third Wave leaders, this news may come as a shock.  Did you know that they have all decided to get together with the Roman Catholic Church?"

(30) Satanic Crosses ... A Stamp Of Approval? by Sandy Simpson, 4/17/2000
"The items we will be discussing here, though, are highly unlikely to be the product of any normal human conspiracy.  But we know from that Word that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers (Eph. 6:12).  It is very curious to see satanic symbols popping up in some very prominent places lately."

(31) Local 'Cult' Hand Out Sick Advertisement! by The Belfast Berean, 4/00
"A group of 'fanatical' and 'extreme' Hyper Charismatic Pentecostal's who meet at the Bethel 'Christian' Fellowship Church in East Belfast have been posting sick adverts through the doors of unsuspecting householders. The advertistement asks the question "ARE THESE PEOPLE DRUNK?" and shows a bottle of wine and states "Come have a drink on us."

(32) Hyper Charismatic Disrupts Funeral Of Baby by The Belfast Berean, 4/00
"At least three weeks ago mourners watched in horror as a Hyper-Pentecostal Charismatic disrupted the funeral of a baby boy - in a bid to bring the child back to life. Distraught and angry relatives had to eject a woman from the funeral at a evangelical church in East Belfast. And
it is understood that the baby’s parents were so upset they have consulted a solicitor over the incident." I like the "rise up and walk" part since the baby was a newborn.  It would have been quite a miracle to have a newborn walk!

(33) Holy Molars! by Gregory Koukl, Stand To Reason, 2000
"Nothing wrong with being sold out for Christ, but
when you get weird for the wrong reasons it doesn't do the Gospel of Jesus Christ any good. And this latest fad, turning fillings into gold, is just that kind of thing."

(34) AFA Is Unable To Recommend CBS Miniseries 'Jesus' AFA Action Alert  5/12/2000
"... Because of these and other similar scenes and/or attitudes, AFA is unable to recommend the movie. TV Guide said many viewers might be surprised by the movie's "reexamination of scripture and other historical accounts of biblical times."  The same article quoted producer Lorenzo Minoli as saying, "This is a new Christ, a very human Christ, for the new millennium."

(35) All That Glitters. . .Gold Fillings And Truth Decay In Toronto by G. Richard Fisher, Personal Freedom Outreach, July - September 1999 Edition
"Charismatic extremists keep reinventing God."

(36) The Cleansing Stream - Warning! Contaminated Water! by Tom Launder, 2000
"From the outset I want to make it clear that I have no personal vendetta to settle with anyone in the Cleansing Stream program or at The Church On The Way. My reasons for opposing this program are purely theological and pastoral. My heart is grieved when I consider what this program teaches and what it does to Christians and professing Christians."  Eleven chapter booklet refuting the new Cleansing Stream materials from The Church On The Way. Isn't the following ringing endorsement from Brownsville AoG on the Cleansing Stream web site enough to put any true believer off this program?  "In eighteen months approximately 2,400 people have gone through the CLEANSING STREAM MINISTRIES'  materials and attended a retreat.   Anyone who serves in any capacity in the church goes through Cleansing Stream.  The impact on our congregation is a drastic reduction in our counseling load. Our people have been given tools with which to deal with life-controlling behavior patterns that have adversely affected their lives and ability to serve God effectively." -  Brownsville Assembly of God, Assistant Pastor Carey Robertson

(37) Is Jesus Cleansing His Church With "Cleansing Stream"? by Mike Oppenheimer, Let Us Reason, 8/00
Another article on the background and false teachings of Cleansing Stream.

(38) Women Of The Faith by The Berean Call, TBC Newsletter, July 2000
An article about great women of the Faith and the danger that many Women's Conferences today are playing on the emotions of women rather than building them up in the Word.  "The inclination of women toward things emotional, subjective and feeling-oriented has not been lost on those who would make a buck in the popular spiritual marketplace." This article also mentions Cleansing Stream materials.

(39) Celebrate Jesus 2000 - A Report Of The Charismatic's Ecumenical Celebration In St. Louis, On The Banks Of The Muddy Mississippi by Dennis Costella, 8/00

"Thousands of devotees of the Hindu goddess Durga flocked to temples in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad for the third straight day Monday, amid claims that statues of the deity were shedding tears."

(42) Watchman Fellowship - NEWS Watchman Fellowship, 10/00
This news column features stories on how Gwen Shamblin of the  Weigh Down Diet Book has denied the basic doctrines of the Faith, The Harry Potter hoax, the RCC stating that it is the "only" church, and other important news stories.

(43) Who Wrote "The Omega Code"? Press Release on suit filed against TBN,11/14/00
"We will soon learn. The Honorable Judge Lourdes Baird in the United States District Court, Los Angeles, California, ruled on October 30, 2000, denying defendants Trinity Broadcasting Network and it's associates Motion for Summary Judgment; declaring that they substantially plagiarized Sylvia Fleener's book entitled The Omega Syndrome."

(44) TBN: The Ark Of God? by Jackie Alnor, The Alnor Report, 1/10/01
"In a shocking display of spiritual arrogance, TBN founder Paul Crouch is now claiming that he and his wife, Jan, and TBN are God's appointed Noah's Ark for the last days.  Their names are encrypted in the book of Genesis in the passage where Noah loaded the survivors of the flood onto the ark, according to a guest on the Praise the Lord program that aired earlier this week."

(45) The Gates And Gatekeepers Of The New Order by Cross + Word, 2/01
"One of these new doctrines is teaching on the GATEKEEPERS and it’s emerging as usual from the aligned revivalist/apostolic churches (churches of the New Order as I shall call them, because that was their chosen title the first time around, in the Latter-Rain revival of 1940’s). It is being said that the Church has gatekeeper ministries, possessing the “keys of David” to open and shut spiritual portals; that these gatekeepers can lock out evil and let in righteousness, both in heaven and on earth; that they can even open the gates of heaven to bring back the “king of glory”!"

(46) (46) Transformation Or Deception - An Expose' On The George Otis "Transformations" Video by Tom Smith, 3/14/00
"In a film recently released by the Sentinel Group which is titled "Transformations" and which is narrated by George Otis Jr., we are presented with a series of four communities that are portrayed as having been radically transformed by revivals. The film says that each of these communities has been subjected to strategic spiritual warfare, using the approach promoted by the Sentinel Group and associated organizations. The implication is that if you follow their approach, this is the result that you can expect to see. We decided to do some research into the claims made in the film, and the following chart is a summary of what we have discovered to date. Beacause of the remoteness of these communities from our location, it has been difficult to research all of the claims, and our work continues." Here is another location for this story!

(47) Omega Syndrome Author Versus TBN Dateline Los Angeles, California - It all started July 11, 2000
"SYLVIA FLEENER, author of The Omega Syndrome, filed suit in Los Angeles, Federal Court against Trinity Broadcast Network and it's principals, Paul and Jan Crouch, additionally naming their son Matthew Crouch, TBN Films, Inc., Gener8Xion Entertainment, Inc., Western Front, Ltd. along with writers Stephan Blinn, Hollis Barton and Lance Charles for copyright and trademark infringement for their use of her original novel, The Omega Syndrome, in the creation process of the Christian movie and book, The Omega Code." Here is the statement of the settlement out of court.

(48) The "Harp and Bowl" 24-Hour Prayer Initiative and the 'Restoration of the Tabernacle of David' by Cross + Word, 5/01
"Way back in what seems another life, I researched the Kansas City Prophets phenomenon. That was, in its time, as gripping a tale as the Toronto Blessing and contained much the same material - manifestations, false prophecies and dominion doctrine. Now some of the central figures involved in that discredited resurgence of the Latter Rain Movement are coming to public notice again for their Harp and Bowl initiative of round-the-clock prayer.  In order to understand the continuity of belief, we have to refer back to the earlier events. For any of you who missed the excitement here's a brief overview of KCP (Kansas City Prophets)."

(49) My Swim Through "Cleansing Stream" by Lonnie Schutz, from Discernment Ministries, 6/01
"God has already provided a cleansing stream for us, where we can truly be cleansed from all of our iniquities and be fully forgiven for all of our past sins, addictions, hurts, and "curses". Hebrews 9: 11-14 "But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" God has forever decreed the cross as the only means of atonement for mankind. Cleansing Stream attempts to replace this sacred sacrifice by inner-healing, spiritual warfare and psychotherapeutic techniques. It is an abysmal state when believers will openly participate in any kind of extra-biblical activity, and so easily turn away from the cross of the precious savior who redeemed them. This is what I saw at Cleansing Stream. Once the cross goes, anything goes."

"Tommy Tenney - Is he bringing the church to God or away from what God said was needed?"

(51) Spiritual Mapping by Rev. Kent Philpott, Miller Avenue Church, 6/99
"It started with John Dawson's book, Taking Our Cities for God, published in 1989 by Creation House. The book's subtitle is: "How to Break Spiritual Strongholds." John Dawson, at that time, directed Youth With A Mission in Los Angeles, California. In a quest for more effective evangelism tools, he taught that demonic forces block gospel efforts."

(52) Harry Potter Christians by Sandy Simpson, 11/16/01
"With the release of the Harry Potter movie expecting the largest revenue for any movie released to date and the sales in the multiple millions of Harry Potter series books, I think it's time to make some comparisons.  This article is not a review of the Harry Potter movie or the book, and for that you can find a number of articles that do a careful analysis of the dangers of teaching our children that sorcery is something that is good and desirable.  For Harry Potter books and movie reviews from a Christian perspective, read the following articles. This article, however, is about what I am terming "Harry Potter Christians".  Whether or not Third Wavers approve of Harry Potter books and the movie, they are living, practicing Harry Potters nonetheless. "

(53) The Overshadowing by Cross + Word, 4/00
"There has recently been talk of a massive global overshadowing that is supposed to transform and glorify certain selected members of the Church and prepare them for rulership. This article looks at the doctrines that undergird the overshadowing and show it to be an age-old heresy."

(54) End-Time Handmaidens - Ministry For The Last Days or "End Time" Delusion? by Personal Freedom Outreach, The Quarterly Journal, July-September 1994
"All in all, with its doctrinal ambiguity, theological aberrations, unscriptural emphasis on the sunpernatural experiences and prophetical and mystical leanings, the End-Time Handmaidens is an attraction for the spiritually naive and undiscerning.  The foundation of the group is far-removed from the bedrock of Christian orthodoxy.  ETH is just another "end time" delusion.  It has a confusing message of salvation, with people only committing to Gwen Shaw's control and her plethora of false teachings and teachers."  Sorry we cannot include this article on our site as there is no link to it online, and we cannot get copyright permission to place it on our server.  Go to the link above to order a copy of this article from PFO.  Ordering information is included on the page, and simply make reference to this article.

(55) The End-Time Handmaidens And Servants Cult - Founder: Gwen Shaw by Mark Scheiderer, 7/00
"Former member of the End-Time Handmaidens & Servants Cult Mark Scheiderer states: "The reasons I am writing this report on my experience with Gwen Shaw and the cult she has founded - a.k.a. End-Time Handmaidens & Servants - are five (six, seven & eight [added later]) fold: (1) To let people know how others and myself were treated while working at this cult's headquarters. (2) Because of my grief over the mental abuse Mrs. Shaw inflicted upon certain people before their departure. (3) Because I can no longer agree with or keep silent about Mrs. Shaw's writings, which are New Age teachings..(4) Because of the pain and destruction that Mrs. Shaw, her teachings, and members of this cult have caused in my parent's marriage (now ended in divorce), the lives of my immediate and extended families, my life and personal relationships with others both during and after my association with this cult, and in the lives of countless others.  (5) So that as many people as possible, especially those within this cult would know the truth about this cult." Gwen Shaw appeared on Benny Hinn's "This Is Your Day" during the month of October, 2000. Hinn sold and endorsed five of her books (with a sixth one free for $40) These books are small paperbacks.  Bill Bright, C. Peter Wagner, John Arnott and others endorse Gwen Shaw.

(56) THE RESTORATION OF DAVIDIC WARFARE/WORSHIP by Orrel Steinkamp, The Plumbline, Volume 7, No. 4, September/October 2002
Over the past decades music has gained an unprecedented prominence in the church.  So much so that music has replaced faith and preaching as the new means of grace.  The influence of music has become so dominant that it is not unusual for worship ministers and worship teams to spend more time in ministry with the congregation than pastors do expounding the Word of God.

(57) An Open Letter to Neale Donald Walsch by Bill Randles, 9/11/03
Mr. Walsch, the Bible warns us that “false christs and false prophets” would arise, bringing deceptive signs and wonders to verify their false teachings. All of this would come in the midst of a time marked by “wars and rumours of wars”. (Matthew 24:6, 24:24) You have boldly challenged me and other Christian ministers to accept your “new gospel.” Do you not realize that your deification of man, and validation of all religions is the “broad way” Jesus warned of that ends in death and destruction for all who are on it (Matthew 7:13-15)? Rather than deny my calling by proclaiming your “new gospel,” I will do what I can to warn people to beware of you, Marianne Williamson, and your Global Renaissance Alliance.

(59) Easy-Believism by Ed Rickard, The Moorings
Two contrary forms of doctrinal error wrench law and grace from their proper roles in Christian experience. The error known as legalism emphasizes law at the expense of grace. It recognizes that salvation is for obedience to the law, but denies that salvation is by grace, affirming instead that salvation is by human works. The error known as antinomianism emphasizes grace at the expense of law. It recognizes that salvation is by grace, but denies that conformity to the law is the goal of Christian living.  Because rules and standards supposedly limit grace, antinomians dislike them. Indeed, they may allege that a Christian need not consider anything as sin—that, having no obligation to moral law, he can do whatever he wants. There were antinomians in Paul's day (Rom. 6:1). They have been prominent at other times in history also. In Puritan times, there were antinomians who denounced civil government as too restrictive of Christian liberty. A few extremists even rejected the Bible, saying that because
they had the Spirit, they had no need for a book of rules.

(61) It's "Glory Dust" And "Manna" In The Apostate Church by Sandy Simpson, 3/30/04
Well, here we go again.  On we find a report as of 1/15/03 of "Revival, Gold & Manna".  This report is backed up with no facts, pictures, or documentation ... just more unverified stories by those who want to entice others into their "love feasts" (Jude 1:12).  Let's look at some of the "facts" of this report so we can dispel this "myth" biblically and get back to reality.

(62) The Joash Syndrome - A Caution Regarding David Wilkerson's Apparent Endorsement of "Slain In The Spirit", etc. by Jacob Prasch, Moriel Ministries, 4/04
Some people are plainly disturbed about David Wilkerson's remarks about "lying on his back laughing unable to get up because of God's hand upon him". I am not sure this should be taken as an endorsement of the Toronto Experience, although I can understand why some people took it that way.

Updated 10/24/04 (63) The New Panentheistic "God" Of Christendom by Sandy Simpson, 9/25/04
There is a new "God" being promoted in the Third Wave, New Apostolic Reformation and Word of Faith movements whose teachers are regularly seen on TBN, Daystar, SkyAngel, CBN and other "Christian" TV networks.  Some of those teachers even have, what would be considered, a fairly typical statement of faith or doctrinal statement they endorse.  But by what they teach they end up promoting a false unbiblical view of God, especially through their actions and experiences.  The whole phenomenon of "slain in the spirit" and all the antics that go with it are brainwashing an entire generation of Christians to put their faith in another Jesus, another Spirit, another Gospel.  This new "Jesus" and "Holy Spirit" is clearly pantheistic or panentheistic in nature.  Though some of these teachers would claim to be believing in the God who is One God in Three Persons, by what they teach they deny the very revealed character of God from Scripture.

(66) The Sellout Has Begun by Dr. Robert Morey, 11/04
If Walter Martin were in his grave, he would be spinning in it as you read this news flash. Who would have ever imagined that such evangelicals as Ravi Zacharias would preach a positive message in the LDS Temple in St Lake, Utah, and state later that the Mormons agreed with his gospel message? If that is not bad enough, who would imagine the president of Fuller Seminary apologizing for evangelicals demonizing Mormons and promising to change our ways? Who would imagine the following people such as Craig Hazen supporting the ecumenical orgy that took place in the Mormon temple?

(67) Evangelical Seminary's Outreach To Mormons Does Not Bridge The Gap by Rob Sivulka, 11/04
Are friendships with Mormons and criticism mutually exclusive? And should all evangelism to Mormons be in the context of friendship? The Salt Lake Theological Seminary Bridges movement would answer in the affirmative to both questions. The movement has become quite influential in the minds of many that conduct ministries to Mormon people. In fact, it seems that it has become quite an influential mode of doing any evangelism in our post-modern culture. This movement seems to be manifesting recently in a series of dialogues between an Evangelical and a Mormon.

(68) The Emergent Church: A Dangerous Fad or Solid New Movement?  by By Jan Markell, Olive Tree Ministries, Inc., 5/05

(71) New Age/Eastern Mysticism In The Churches by Sandy Simpson, 9/18/05
Within my lifetime there has been a monumental change in the churches. In the last few decades New Age Eastern Mysticism and Gnosticism has entered a majority of Christian churches. It entered very slowly, like a frog in a pot. When the pot is slowly brought to a boil with a live frog in the pot it has been observed that he will not jump out because he does not feel the changes in temperature until he is boiled to death. The "slow boil" of New Age brainwashing in the churches started a long time ago, but even in the last 20 years or so the changes are stark. None of the New Age practices I will mention could be found in most churches at that time, and would have been soundly dismissed as unbiblical and heretical. Many will ask, "Where has the New Age entered the churches?" All you have to do is think about it a little and you will see that many churches have adopted New Age teachings and ideas and "Christianized" them, when none of them are biblical.

(72) THE EMERGING CHURCH - Revival or Return To Darkness? by Roger Oakland, Understand The Times, 10/05
History reveals that Christian fads and trends come and go. It seems that it is common for many pastors and church leaders to constantly look for some new methodology, “new wave” or “new thing” God is doing, “right now.”  We live at a period in church history that is characterized by enthusiasm for methods and means that facilitate church growth. Large churches are commonly equated with successful pastors and successful church growth methods. Whatever it takes to reach that objective, is acceptable, we are told. Church growth has become the measuring stick for successful Christianity.

(75) Experiencing God by Anton Bosch, 12/05
I just did a search on the internet for the phrase “experience God” and came up with over 51 million references![1] Wow, that must be an important idea! “Well off course it is”, I hear you say. “We must experience God” has become such a common idea amongst Christians today that we all accept, without question, that this is God’s will for us. And of course none of us want to be so unspiritual that we don’t want to have an experience with God and so many who have not “experienced God” silently sneak away feeling embarrassed, cheated, and inferior. Then there are those special, highly spiritual ones who have experienced God and walk around feeling superior to the rest of those who have never experienced this level of spirituality. But what is the truth about experiencing God? I did a search through the Bible and found that neither the King James nor the New King James version use the phrase “experience God” at all. The English word “experience” appears three times in the New King James[2] and three times in the King James.[3] None of these scriptures refer to experiencing God in any way.

(76) The Dangers of Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Disciplines by Bob DeWaay, Critical Issues Commentary, Issue 91 - November / December 2005
Practices called “spiritual disciplines” that are deemed necessary for “spiritual formation” have entered evangelicalism. Recent encounters with this teaching narrated to me by friends caused me to investigate these practices.

(79) From Traitor to Hero? Responding to the "Gospel of Judas" by Albert Mohler, Friday, April 07, 2006
Informed Christians will be watchful and aware when confronting churches or institutions that present spurious writings, rejected as heretical by the early church, on the same plane as the New Testament.  The verdict of Athanasius, one of the greatest leaders of the early church, still stands: "Let no man add to these, neither let him take ought from these, for concerning these the Lord put to shame the Sadducees, and said, 'Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures.' And He reproved the Jews, saying, 'Search the Scriptures, for these are they that testify of Me.'"

(80) The Da Vinci Code Deciphered by Gary E. Gilley, Pastor-Teacher, 04/06/06
The most celebrated novel of our times is much more than a novel.  The Da Vinci Code has sold some forty million copies, just a drop in the bucket compared to the number of people who will view the movie starring everybody’s most beloved actor, Tom Hanks, and directed by none other than Opie (aka Ron Howard).  As a result, before the close of 2006 the majority of those in the Western world will probably be introduced to the mysterious code popularized by Dan Brown.  They will no doubt find this code both intriguing and troubling.  It is intriguing because Brown is a fascinating author.  The Da Vinci Code is unquestionably a great novel by literary standards and, if it was only a novel, would not be worth our time to examine in this venue.  But it is troubling because Brown has a clear agenda, perhaps several overlapping ones.

(78) Max Lucado Hops Into The Contemplative Camp by Lighthouse Trails, 7/31/06
Apparently, those with New Age persuasions admire Lucado's "divine spark" in everyone idea. And why not. That's what the New Age is really all about. But the questions must be asked, Why is Thomas Nelson publishing another book that promotes New Age ideas (see their book Yoga for Christians, 2006), and is this book going to be carried in Christian bookstores and churches and considered another worthy book for Sunday school classes?

(79) Bible-Answer-Man Turns Traitor by Jackie Alnor, Apostasy Alert, 10/1/06
The following news release just came through the E-List from Midwest Christian Outreach, headed up by apologist Don Veinot.  He reports that Hank Hanegraaff, the radio Bible-Answer-Man has taken the side of an abusive shepherding group, the Local Church, against Harvest House Publishers and authors John Ankerberg and John Weldon in a lawsuit initiated by the "church".

(80) Compromisanity Today by Jackie Alnor, Apostasy Alert, 11/19/06
Christianity Today calls itself, "a magazine of evangelical conviction." The problem is, however, that by the look of the church leaders they highlight, the advertisers they accept, and the positions they take editorially, they are not plugged into the convicting power of the Holy Spirit. If they were, they wouldn’t put money and influence above truth and holiness.

(81) Mystical Youth Ministry - Youth Specialties by Gary Gilley, Think On These Things, May 2007
In this edition, I would like to examine yet another powerful fad now making the rounds of evangelical churches, what I call “mystical youth ministry.”  Perhaps the strongest promoter of this philosophy is Youth Specialties which, through its seminars and conferences alone, impact the lives of tens of thousands of youth leaders and young people every year.[3]  Of course, Youth Specialties pours out tons of literature as well, much of it in promotion of mysticism.[4]  In this paper I will be interacting largely with Mark Yaconelli’s recent book Contemplative Youth Ministry, Practicing the Presence of Jesus. This volume, jointly published by Youth Specialties and Zondervan, seeks to propagate an approach to youth work that would mirror ancient Roman Catholic mystical practices of the middle ages.  I believe this book well represents what some are trying, unfortunately with good success, to introduce as the next wave of youth ministry. Read Part 1.

(82) Is Harry Potter symbolic of Jesus the Son of God? by Mike Oppenheimer, 8/1/07
Many believe there are connections to Jesus in the Harry Potter series. Is there any truth to this being an allegory of Christ?

(84) Theophostics: Unbiblical Teaching Wedded to Mystical Experience (Theophostic Ministry) by Bob DeWaay, November/December 2003
A few weeks ago my wife and I were driving to the house of some close friends, listening to a tape of Dr. Ed Smith, the founder of Theophostic counseling, who was preaching at a large evangelical church in our city.1 As we listened, my wife asked, “what kind of sermon is this?” The sermon was filled with psychological terminology, a sprinkling of Scripture giving 21st century psychological meanings to 1st century concepts, and many anecdotes to convince the listeners that every one of them needed “Theophostic” ministry. After some time my wife looked at me and said, “Why are these people listening to this? We heard this 25 years ago.”

(85) My Trip to the Rethink Conference by Roger Oakland, Understanding The Times, 1/08
Over the 30 years I have traveled the road of life as a born-again, Bible-believing Christian, I have experienced a number of significant events that have provided inspiration and direction for the ministry God has given me. The Rethink Conference held at Robert Schuller’s Crystal Cathedral, January 17-19, 2008 can now be listed as one of those watershed events. While I was not able to attend the entire conference because of a missionary trip scheduled to the Philippines, the opening day of Rethink: new perspectives from global influences provided ample evidence to evaluate the significance of the event. For nearly two thousand years, most professing Christians have seen the Bible as the foundation for the Christian faith. The overall view at the Rethink Conference, however, is that Christianity, as we have known it, has run its course and must be replaced. Co-hosted by Erwin Mc Manus and Robert Schuller, the conference declared that a paradigm shift is now underway. Speakers insisted that Christianity must be re-thought and re-invented if the name of Jesus Christ is going to survive here on planet earth now that we are in the twenty-first century.

(86) Final Preparations to Receive the New Age Christ
by Prof. Johan Malan, Middelburg, South Africa, March 12, 2008
Christianity experiences unprecedented attacks on its foundational truths. These attacks are motivated and coordinated by evil forces that are intent on deceiving all people as a prelude to revealing the Antichrist and physically establishing Satan’s kingdom on earth. Their main obstacle is biblical beliefs in the deity, atoning death, resurrection and second coming of Jesus Christ. As a result, attacks against evangelical Christianity are on the increase, being aimed at discrediting the canonical books of the Bible, and thus also the God and Saviour of the Bible.

(87) Joshua Mills: Teeth Whitening Miracle by Slaughter Of The Sheep, 3/28/10

Joshua Mills is …well… to put it mildly… given over to spinning yarns!  Look folks, there comes a point where things become so ridiculous that you pretty much know that if people can actually take leave of their senses and believe things as preposterous as what Joshua Mills claims, then they get what they deserve.

A Whole Lot Of Wishful Thinking These Days!
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD series is a teaching based on this article

In this DVD series I want to detail a number of beliefs people have these days that have no basis in Scripture.  I am going to roam all over the map, so to speak, and try to give fairly short answers on a number of topics and also give you useful links to articles that will help you deal with any particular issue.  It is truly amazing how many false ideas people cling to without giving a thought to what the Bible has to say on the subject.

First of all, the best way you can support this web site is to be a Berean. Search the Scriptures daily and stand firm in your faith against the apostasy of the last days. It would give me great joy if more Christians would learn to discern! Secondly, please continue to uphold this ministry in prayer. The expository nature of this site has brought down the wrath of the enemy countless times. Thirdly, there are many costs involved in running this site as well as providing research and materials so that you will be armed with the truth. I send out three separate newsletters and provide other apologetics materials free of charge to Christian leaders in this area of the world. I am a full time missionary supported by sending churches in the U.S. For some years I did not ask for support but some people have sent me support and asked how they can help, so I want to provide the following information.
